Nigel Sinnott had written a review (10 years ago) of a book on the religious cult known as 'The Family', by Sarah Hamilton-Byrne, one of the 'children'.
Nigel says, "I think there was a 'profound' matter at stake, an attempt by some 'leaders' in the freethought movement to stop favourable publicity for a book exposing a vile religious cult. To my mind this was an appalling betrayal of what the freethought-humanist-rationalist movement is supposed to be 'about'. And I do not think the 'cause' is well served by sweeping unpleasant things under the carpet."

The Meetup prior to the lecture is a BYO Barbeque (Charles Darwin Day) at the Yarra River BBQ facilities, Alexandra Avenue, near the Morell Bridge, from 5.30pm. (Some people will be there an hour or so earlier).
