Let's meet near the ticket booth by 11.15 AM for the 11.30 AM (morning) session - look out for my Meet Up badge pinned to my bag.
We'll head for coffee after the film (which is 172 mins). Please update your rsvp if you don't intend to come so the group does not wait for you. No Shows are recorded.
A note to our new members: We buy our tickets individually at the desk (or online if you wish); being Sunday morning it's not overly crowded. We're in Cinema 1 (the big one) and there is no reserve seating. We may not be able to all sit together and usually end up in clusters. I encourage you to join the group after the film as our discussions are fun, interesting and intelligent.
"From the David Mitchell novel CLOUD ATLAS, the powerful and inspiring epic drama, explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future.
Action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future. Each member of the stellar ensemble cast appears in multiple roles as the stories move through time."
Cast: Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Ben Whishaw, Susan Sarandon and Hugh Grant
At the Movies rating: Margaret (4/5) and David (3.5/5)
Hi everyone!
The french Film Festival is underway, and I'm planning to start on Sunday, March 10: 6.45pm In the House, by Ozon, w/Fabrice Luchini, Emmanuelle Seigner and Kristin Scott Thomas.
Taking advantage of the public holiday on Monday the 11th, I've selected a double-take of 1.30pm Looking for Hortense and 3.45pm Sister, both got awards at international festivals, and seem to be very interesting, each in its own way.
If you feel like going, but don't want to go on your own - let's join forces :))) If you have any other preferences for this weekend's features (e.g., Therese Desqueyroux, Sat.@8.30pm) - get in touch, and we could probably work it out. My # is [masked].
P.S. all of the showtimes are for Palace Cinema Kino on Collins St.
a bientot,
GS

I agree, Peter. Thought the cinematography/special effects were impressive but characters were simplistic and storyline overly disjointed.
March 4
Visually excellent, plot so-so - very disjointed and piecemeal, theme - good vs bad (no grey shades or morally challenging ideas)

A very ambitious, well made film - a few of my friends who have read the book found it fragmented and confusing, but overall I think it was well done. There was a lot to absorb and I'll probably spend my commuting time trying to put the puzzle together. I picked this film because of the impressive cast and they did not disappoint. Many thanks for your continual attendance and making the Melbourne Film Club such a great Meet Up group! See you next time :)

can't make it anymore. I blew out my knee today playing basketball. Maybe next time!

Hi All, Great Space Cafe called and said they'll be closing at 3pm (they told me 4pm yesterday) which doesn't give us much time for us to chat after the film which will end around 2.30pm. Let's go annoy Laurent instead (unless someone has another venue near by that can accommodate all of us).

Hi again, sorry for the multiple posts. I've booked us some tables at Great Space Cafe (since Laurent hasn't been all that nice to us). It's located on the ground level (Kino is lower ground) so please head there after the film. If you don't intend to join us, could you please let me know. We always lose a few after the film and I wouldn't want you to think we've abandoned you. If all goes well, perhaps this could be our new post film hang out?

I would love to but i have to care for my child this weekend, plus take dogs out for walk at 1. I doubt i'd be back here in time. I have just found meetup and the two things I love are on here. Thank you for having this fantastic group and site.

You wouldn't believe it, Karen, the Clean Up people have just emailed me to say the site I was to work at is closed this year. Now I'm in a dilemma, do I find another site or go to the movies? Hmmm...I'll be in touch. Cheers Tess

Sorry Karen, I'm booked to do some Clean Up Australia stuff that day. Enjoy, and I'll catch you (I think I'm booked up for the 10th March as well) next time. Cheers Tess
