Have a LAN PARTY!

  • June 9, 2013 · 12:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

After much calculation and fact finding, we've finally settle on a venue, date and time for our first LAN party!

The venue is Cydus, as you're probably aware. They're on Victoria street, opposite Vic markets. You can bring your own PC or use theirs, whatever you prefer! You can also bring just your PC and use their monitors if you want to save carrying it. If you're planning on bringing a console, you'll need to bring a screen to. The time is Midday to 9pm, incase that wasn't clear :P

The owner has helped us out big time price wise. We managed to get it down to $15 a head, so he'll be making nothing out of this. That being the case, it'd be great if you could just buy a pack of chips or a drink from them! The happier he is, the more we can come back.

I'm sure we'll all see eachother again before this LAN, so if you have any questions or ideas, feel free to ask me then or leave a comment.

Also, make sure if you RSVP that you can actually come. I'd like to give Arnie a solid number of people coming.

These things would be great to bring if you can. Please leave a comment below if you're going to bring any:

PS3 -

Xbox360 -

Projector -

Spare TVs -

Anything else -

Games you should have installed if you have them/want to play them:

DOTA2, SC2, TF2, CS:S, CS:GO, BF3, COD, Quake 3 Arena, Soldat, Left 4 Dead (2 if you want), Goldeneye Source, Hidden, Terraria, UT2004, Chivalry, Magika, GMOD, Awesomenauts, Borderlands 2, Planetside 2

Hey guys, come on down this Saturday to the event I've made, just a casual meet in a pub talk and drink :)

Had a great time, was sort of weird at the start playing those super old lan games though.

I think by "weird" you meant fantastically nostalgic ;) Servers for these games generally don't exist anymore, so it's fun to play them in a group whenever we can.

      Haha that's true

    Hey all!

Thanks to all of you that came. We had around 40 people in the end, which ensured we had multiple games running simultaneously, which is great. There were a few bumps at the start, getting all those PCs going at the same time. But in the end, everyone was up and running having fun I hope.

I was trying to make sure that everyone had something to do and something to play, but if I missed anyone I'm sorry! I'll endeavor to rectify this next time. For the most part though, I'm pretty confident we all had a good time.

Soon I'll post the date of our next one, and keep an eye out for any extra-curricular meetups!

Was pretty fun, I think it would be great to have a formal meet'n'greet session beforehand at a cafe or bar for everyone to get to know everyone first, at least for those who didnt make it to the previous meetup

    Hi all!
First LAN party is tomorrow, as I'm sure you're all aware. Key points:

    - Time is from 12 Midday to 9pm, but you can come in/out however you like.
    - Cost is $15
    - You can bring your own PC or use theirs, whatever you like. I recommend bringing your own peripherals (keyboards/mice/headphones etc) if you're used to your own, but their monitors are just fine.
    - Snacks and drinks are available for purchase in-venue. We'll probably go get dinner somewhere (awesome korean BBQ place nearby).
    - Being that this is our first organised LAN party, if you have any requests for game lobbies to be set up please let them be known! Eventually we'll figure out what everyone wants to play and it'll all be one big happy family
    - Feel free to bring any friends, you don't have to RSVP them. Even if they just wanna come watch, maybe play some SNES, it's all good.
If you have any questions, just reply!

This really has nothing to do with the land party, I just felt like chatting. Lol.

Just starting playing the new Tomb Raider and homygod it's blowing my mind. Way better than I thought it would be!

Oh I can be there around 4pm if it's all good. I actually went to Cydus the night of our first meetup and ended up at home 12pm the next day :o

Some advice: Bring your own HEADSET, MOUSE and KEYBOARD if you'll be on their pc!

Mechanical uses cherry switches. Traditional uses silicon cone.

      June 3, 2013

    • Harry H.

Mechanical keyboards can have many different types of switches, with different force. Cherry brown, cherry black, cherry blue are a few.

Hey, I've got 3 mates who are interested in coming but the event only lets me bring 1 as a guest, any chance we could change that? Or shall I just tell them they have to register with meetup?

I'd like to know what games people are interested in playing over LAN. Could everyone who's coming maybe post a comment saying what they'd like to play please? It might help us organise games quicker on the day too if we know who wants to play what together.

I think the only game on that list I have ever played is good old UT2004.

Can I assume that the computers at the place will have internet browsers I can use to get you all hooked on some dumb (free) flash games?

Good point Ryan, but on the other hand, in terms of making money, selling drugs is a *really good* idea. But I don't think they hold LAN parties in prison. If they do, I'm in the wrong business.

      May 23, 2013

As my PC is a metal mammoth, I'll be using the in house PCs but I really want to bring my mouse mouse and keyboard, is that allowed? They're both USB devices.
