Presentation & Discussion: Understanding your drivers for happiness

  • Jul 31, 2012 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

If you have ever pondered as to:

- Why is the secret of happiness different to different people?
- Why is change soo hard?
- Why can I connect easily with some people but not others?
- Why do people do the things they do?
- Why is spirituality important to some people but not others?

This meetup will be all about the “WHY” of human evolution and happiness and we will start a conversation in answering some of the above questions.

To assist with answering these questions, I will do a formal presentation based on Ken Wilbers work in Spiral Dynamics. Since learning this model about 6 years ago, the way I view the world has totally changed and provided me with some clarity as it why the world is the way it is and why happiness has different meanings to different people.

I will present the materials in a fun, informative, interactive and interesting way, with plenty of time for discussion!

It is $10 to attend the meetup, this goes towards covering costs and any surplus made is donated to charity. This is optional if you are going through financial hardship. As usual, there will be tea; coffee and nibbles will be provided.

I’m looking forward to presenting this material, and would love it if you can join me on that night. Hope you can make it!!

Lots of love,
Olivia

Would you like to learn a few useful things I've learned about Spiral Dynamics?

As well knowing which the World View we use the most, our centre of gravity as Olivia called it, it is useful to notice which you use under stress, which is lower.

It is also useful to notice how we use each of these World Views/Ways Of Being, in order to get in touch with and get used to each one. This is for the future as it is likely we will gradually progress towards a more Yellow (and beyond) society in the future (who could of predicted the iPad 10 years ago); and Yellow is about using all these Views/Ways in an integrated way.

I thought the session was very interesting but also a useful tool to guide a person (and myself) into understanding my drivers for happiness. Thanks Olivia.

Just to be clear the spiral isn't about mood, rather, which World View/Thinking System we are using in response to how complex are our Life Conditions.

First time I attend to this meetup and I could say I am very happy with the experience. Olivia did an awesome job with the presentation.

Thanks Olivia and Ivan for organising this event. My wife and I are looking forward to attend to other of these meetups.

I related to the levels that were outlines in the "Spiral " It made sense to me. How does one help someone else overcome the block? If one is stuck on (say) the Red (egocentric) level, how do you help him/her get over this.

This is always a great group - each evening is varied, always lots of a range of interesting people to meet and the conversations are always deep.

Also Spiral Dynamics from someone's whose studied it extensively - what more could I want.

Why a spiral? To help you remember something. A spiral has two sides, so as you go up a spiral you alternate from one side to the other, and as you go up the World Views you alternate between Internally focussed (my survival, my power, my achievement, …) and Externally focussed (the tribe, the future/hierarchy/truth, all people, …).

Another very thought-provoking session. Thanks again to Olivia. Question to the group - what is it that gives this model it's 'spiral' nature (other than the name and diagram)? As opposed to a hierarchy of motivators - more complex, but not dissimilar in structure to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, perhaps.

    Hi All,
Looking forward to Tuesday. Motorcycle is currently out of action, so I'd be very appreciative of a lift to Sandringham at the end of the night if anybody might be driving that way...
    Thanks & Smiles :)
