The MelbJVM user group meets the first Wednesday of every month usually meeting in the CBD. Topics cover Java and related JVM languages, frameworks and other trends on the platform.
This month, we've got Alexis Hope presenting on his experiences with Solr. Solr is a super fast 'enterprise search server' sporting a HTTP/REST/XML api and a neat little HTML front end for admin. Its used by many enterprises including eBay, Netflix, Wikipedia and Twitter.
Alexis will discuss what Solr is, go through use cases, indexing, configuration and some cool features that come with it. He'll also run through a demo.
After that we'll leave the rest of the evening open to discuss new trends and technologies.
If you have anything you'd like to discuss or present please get in touch with the organisers.
Alexis Hope has been a web developer for 7 years, and a Linux / Open Source enthusiast. He has recently become a self proclaimed a fan boy of the Apache Foundation.
Info on getting there:
Peoplebank offices are on the south-west corner of Flinders Lane and Queen St. Doors lock at 6pm but someone from Peoplebank will be downstairs to let people in. If when you get there, no one is present, call [masked] and we'll send someone down. We also will be having a raffle, so when you get to Level 13, there will be someone to greet you, get a nametag, and also put you in the raffle draw. For those driving in, there is $10 flat rate after hours parking on Market St, between flinders lane and flinders st.
