Mobility in the Workplace

  • Jun 26, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

These days "mobility" seems to mean having multiple mobile devices - all of which you carry with you. But is this really making anyone more productive? Perhaps even more importantly, can it be used to support better decision making though improved knowledge management?

This session will explore the why, what and how of mobile technology and provide participants with many of the questions and some of the answers around effective mobile technology use and how we can use mobile technology as a personal knowledge management device.

Agenda

  • 6:00 - 6:30 networking over drinks and nibbles
  • 6:30 - 7:40 exploration of the topic
  • 7:40 - 8:00 wrap up and informal conversations
  • Dinner for interested parties

This comes a few weeks late but a good article that emphasises what Simon presented and also a clip on 'Watson' for anyone interested

Storify from "Mobility in the workplace" is now available from http://storify.com/nickyhw/workplace-mobility which includes Simon's presentation.

Thanks to the tweeters Michelle Wells & Katherine Gallen!

Thanks to Simon for sharing his insights on moibility in the work place and challenging us to think how better to use mobile technologies to support the changing way we work.

My apologies for the late no show, the spill has completely thrown me.

I've been really looking forward to having a conversation and getting some insights about this topic. So much of my working day is taken up with inefficiently wrangling my communications and data!

Unfortunately, child care has not smiled upon me this eve so I hope I get to mop up some of the juices of this meetup another time

    Regards
    Will

I'm a little unsure as to what the topic is? Is this about using mobiles for accessing data basically? Accessing CRM, Email, calendars etc?

Hi Chris, the description was fairly broad but the focus of the session is on using mobile technology to manage tacit knowledge in organisations. I hope to see you there.

My organisation (Army / ADF) has a very mobile workforce even when the people remain within the organisation! Military people get relocated every three years once they reach a certain level. We can be better at handling the capture, processing and application of their wisdom.

Geoff it will be good to add this to the discussion on Wednesday!

Thanks for the comment Geoff. One of the things we will talk about is both how the organisation can capture their wisdom and also how organisations can help individuals take that wisdom to their next role.
