I think that it is a waste if the organisation have a lack knowledge management. As communication is stalled and new ideas cannot be generated or spread through the community. It will be a waste of talent and resources.
People who have the knowledge should be willing to share and people who are learning must be keen learners. There should be guidance in knowledge sharing to ensure that the recipient can absorb the essence. Once the recipient has the knowledge, he/she can now share the knowledge and the cycle continues. The company should encourage this knowledge sharing culture and promote communication among employees.
I've graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Life Science. I used to work as an Air Traffic Controller for the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and am now doing my MBA at RMIT.
