Hi everyone,
I would like to start a series of sessions for us to assist each other in mastering Portrait Drawing. The sessions will be half theory and half practice.
The theory I will be presenting will be from the following texts (both are available from Dymocks):
(1) 'The Complete Guide to Drawing & Illustration' by Peter Gray.
(2) 'The Complete Introduction to Drawing' by Barrington Barber.
If you can, please get yourself one of these books and have some background reading on the 'Portrait Drawing' section before each session.
What to bring:
(1) Pencils: A useful starting set would be H, HB, 2B and 6B.
(2) Eraser: should be neither too hard nor too spongy.
(3) Paper: A4 sketchpad (ideal) or photocopy paper or scrap paper.
(4) A sharp knife or scalpel for fashioning the points of your pencils.
(5) A pen and notepad to take notes.
(6) A good attitude and willingness to learn and/or review your knowledge about Art and drawing in general.
Costs:
$3 per person to cover the cost of room booking, presentation materials, handouts and equipment hire (if required).
Cheers,
Khoa
Thanks for organising this Khoa! It was really enjoyable! looking forward to the next session!

Very enjoyable. Great to have so many different heads to draw and really focus the eye. Thanks Khoa for all the work you put in. And yes I would love a copy of the handout if any left. It was a lovely intro to group for me, seemed like a pretty easy going group

Koah's preparation and tute were well appreciated and well organised. Ran well also due to the group's previous experience in life drawing classes. Almost everyone modeled once and everyone got a number of ten minute structural pieces done. Fun and friendly group. Need more of this event. Weekly would be ace!

Hi everyone, I still have some spare handouts from the presentation. Please let me know if you are interested in having them.
Ideally, you should do some drawing practice before the next session. Cheers Khoa

Hi. I also enjoy using pen more than pencil. I enjoy the overlapping effect you can get using pen. Thanks for organising this event khoa :) Tamar
August 7
Thanx Khoa :) I've actually been sketching with pens for over a decade & more comfortable with it than using pencils - yes it leaves very little room for error but it's my medium of choice. And I've done potraits with pen. However, I will certainly bring pencils & see how we go :) looking forward to the meetup!
August 7
Hi Sue, it is best to use pencils for portrait drawing as per instructions in the prescribed textbooks. When you are confident enough with portrait drawing, you can use pens -:)
August 6
I normally sketch with pens - is it fine if I do that? Or do I have to use a pencil?
August 6

I'm confused. Last time I looked it was the 11th August in the city, Is this a second date/time/place or has it been changed? Thanks

This sounds like a good idea... I've been focusing on painting portraits recently and think it'd be good to share and also get some feedback.
