Better Photography Workshop

  • Apr 19, 2014 · 2:00 PM

Do you want to take your photography to the next level?

Do you want to create images with that “Wow!” factor?

Do you want to develop the skills to control the full creative and expressive potential of your camera?

Do you want discover your own unique style?

Photography is becoming more open and accessible to every one. Every mobile device has a camera built in. Our lives are becoming documented in images that are shared in social networks online. More people are interested in improving their photography to take better photos, whether it is of their family, friends, their city or the places they travel to, whether it is just for their own collection or to post online and share with their friends.

This workshop is for photographers of all levels who have an understanding of their camera, but are looking to further refine their photographic skills, to master the fundamental principles of photography and to create amazing images deliberately and consistently rather than just occasionally getting that great shot by chance.

Topics covered:

• Light

• Mastering exposure-what to expose for in a scene, when to make exposure compensations, when to use the different metering modes, 'correct' vs creative exposure

• Composition-the underlying structure of a photo to catch the viewer’s eye. All elements must contribute to the image. Rule of thirds, diagonals, S curves, balance, leading lines, symmetry and patterns, rhythm, giving images depth: foreground-middle ground-background/obscuring, framing, contrast of elements, texture, filling the frame and cropping to removing distractions, positive and negative spaceColour balance-monochromatic, analogous, complimentary, warm, cool

• Perspective/viewpoint

• Eye path-directling the way the viewer’s eyes move around the image

• Story telling

• Capturing the "decisive moment"

• Expression
