This workshop aims at refining the skills that make great portraits. Whether we are aiming to take better photos of our family and friends or to develop our skills as a professional portrait photographer, there are specific skills that can be developed to improve our photographs.
The various aspects that need to be considered to make a successful portrait have been thoroughly explored by many great artists throughout the history of art from posing to lighting to composition. Photography poses additional challenges as the portrait is just a brief instant and so communication becomes an important skill, to make our subject comfortable, to direct them in the to pose and to facilitate them evoking expression. We will be working both with a model and with each other to practice the skills of portraiture.
