This month we're testing a new format for the evening. We're going to hold a pre-meetup SEO 101 training session for all those wanting to learn the basics. This training session is free and we welcome all newcomers.

5:15 - 6:15 Beginner Session

SEO 101 Basic Training (Saijo George/Chris Burgess)

6:45 - 8:30 Main Presentations

1) News/Jobs

2) Why is my web business failing?

The actionable how-to-guide for online business success

A slightly different look at the useful strategies along with common and unnecessary time-wasters of the digital marketing and web design worlds. This talk is focused on assisting website owners, marketing managers, designers and developers in creating the optimal and most profitable user experience regardless of your niche or target demographics.

3) Site Clinic

---

Please note: The venue is the Limerick Arms Hotel in South Melbourne.

The aim is to run 2-3 presentations in the first couple of hours (with intermissions between talks so you can ask any questions and grab a drink), followed with some laid-back networking and drinks.

We no longer have to limit the number of people we can fit into the new space but please RSVP so we can advise the venue.

Here is the Google place listing but if you're having trouble finding us, ping @chrisburgess or @holidaypointau.

A reminder that we are located upstairs, but feel free to ask the staff if you can't find the stairs.

Thanks for all the positive feedback folks. I'd be more than happy to cover the last six topics in the closing slides in-depth in a few months if there's interest. Just let me know which topics you'd most like to learn about.

Speaking of slides, they have been fixed (saved as pdf) and uploaded to: http://www.slideshare.net/nikpasic/presentation-37709849

Feel free to download, share, comment and do with them as you please.

A huge thank you to Peter Mead and everyone else who gave advice on my site Technibble. Nik, Paul, Michael, Chris, Saijo and many others. It was a massive help and will give me plenty to work on in the coming weeks. Its a great meetup with a great community!

Hi Bryce, enjoyed learning about your site last night. Something else to think about after you have implemented all the SEO advice you got last night would be the kit your selling. I think the copy on the sales page could really be improved with a couple of hours work. Also when I visited the site the only reason I knew there was something for sale was because you said so last night. Maybe use one of the ad slots in the sidebar or somewhere on the site you know your getting eyeballs to drive traffic to your offer rather than ad clicks.

Thanks for putting your site up for audit, Bryce. It was a really interesting debate. I learnt a lot.

Folks it looks like my deck is having font conversion issues which would explain why it was all out of whack. I'll fix this up over the next couple of days and upload it here along with a few of the links.

Thanks everyone for coming along and making the presentations interactive and entertaining.

    Hi All,
Hope you had a great night, sorry I couldn't make it. You may have heard about the Small Business Festival that is on www.business.vic.gov.au/festival and today I went to a presentation on SEO (I will actually be talking on Hyperlocal Marketing on 20/8/14 - yes, self promotion!). The session today was actually very good and the guys from Optimising.com.au provided a lot of content and have kindly supplied the slides and invited us to share (as below). Hope you find the tips here helpful - and perhaps you could get them to talk on some of these points at a future Meetup? Cheers, Sue
