I'm happy to lead a small group(s) of keen street photographers and get out and shoot people on the street. Candids, or posed it doesn't matter.
Happy to chat technique, overcoming the fear of taking photos of people you don't know, compare ideas, whatever really ..... you're with friends .... we get it, talking shop is fine :-)
Everyone's welcome - it doesn't matter if you're new to photography and it sure as hell doesn't matter what camera you have! However, I'm going to suggest capping the groups at 8-10 people. So if there are more than 10 people keen, then other people will have to lead out other groups.
Small groups are easier to get around with and to keep somewhat together.
The last "street photography" meetup I came along to, the group leaders avoided people on the street and went on a quiet laneways stroll .... that's cool, but with this one you know what you're in for!
Some potential locations on my radar for the day:
Degraves / Centre Place
Bourke Street Mall
Out front of State Library
Out front of Melbourne Town Hall
Queen Vic Market
.... and anywhere in between!
I think we'll hit a general location and spend 15-20 minutes at each space. Plenty of time to step back, explore and blend into each location and plenty of time to "perch" if you want to try a bit of that.
Shooting candid street photography in small groups can be less intimidating than heading out alone, so maybe a good way to introduce yourself to it.
1000 Pound Bend has been a good place to meet up. Let's keep that location, though meet outside in the little laneway just down the street.
We'll head back to 1000lb Bend afterwards to all catch up over a beer (or a grain fed, soy infused, hippie cider) and check out some photos! I'd say if we're all back to 1000lb by 1:30pm that'll be a fair session out on the street and won't take up your entire day.
Hope to see some of you there.
Questions, comments, more info???? Fire away!
