How to be authentically digital - designing a Windows 8 Metro app

Following on from Alex Knight's talk on Metro design, Shane Morris (@ShaneMo) will take us through the process of designing for Metro for Windows 8. Starting with the underlying principles behind the Metro design language, Shane will cover the implications of Metro beyond the layout rules, and highlight some traps for young players.

Shane is the User Experience Consultant & Director of Automatic Studio. He was also previously a UX expert at Microsoft Australia. Shane brings a lot of experience into every one of his talks.

An enjoyable and informative session on Metro. I feel there was some assumption with the terminology. Perhaps some "terms you need to know and what they are" clarifications would be useful for those not familiar with Metro.

It was really informative learning about how design principles stemmed from cognitive behavior. A lot of great insight from the process of designing in Metro. Can't wait for the next one!

Excellent meeting, great to hear about the background of the development of metro style and the reasons why it is like it is.

A fantastic event worth going to. Shane Morris presented exceptionally well and gave some great pointers as to tackling the Metro UI and some of the gotya's with it. Certainly glad I went.

Enjoyed the talk - it was helpful to have a designer like Shane explain the history and principles (even the psychology!) behind Metro. I would have liked some info on the design language itself, but there wasn't really time for that.
