Things Your Nanna Knew Workshop - Buttons!

Rag Trade Market is a super cute new fashion and design market with a focus on upcycling, recycling, and second-handing. Because all these things are awesome we're going to collaborate with them to run little mending workshops :) They are called Things Your Nanna Knew, and the first workshop will be based on that most basic of mending skills that so many have forgotten, sewing buttons.

Those of us who struggle with the stitchin' will get some learnin', while those who already have the knowin' will be making little bracelets, hair slides, and necklaces from the enormous jar of old buttons.

Please feel free to bring your de-buttoned clothes that need mending, and if you'd like to help teach on the day please do drop in at any time :)

The workshop is running all day - from 11am to 4pm - but let's get together at 2pm for a drink and some crafty times. The workshop is pay-as-you-feel, free if you like, but a donation to cover the cost of materials would be much appreciated.

1000 Pound Bend is at 361 Little Lonsdale Street in the CBD, and is close to Melbourne Central train station, as well as all the trams that run along Elisabeth St.

I've started making a Pinterest board with some thoughts and ideas for other button crafts we can do, you can check it out here:

Don't forget that this is the first of a series of workshops, so if you have any ideas for mending skills that we could teach to makers and non-makers alike make a suggestion!

Will there be buttons to buy? I am using thousands at the moment on a mosaic project.
