Joey Pouch Knitting Crafternoons (and beginner knitting workshops)

Hundreds of marsupial joeys come into the care of Wildlife Victoria's volunteers every year. All joeys, including possums, wombats, wallabies, koalas, and kangaroos, need to be kept warm and quiet, but while Wildlife Victoria's volunteer carers put in so much time and love when caring for these precious creatures, most don’t have time to knit or sew the pouches that they require for the little ones in care.

Luckily we've got the knitting skills so we can do it for them :) Let's meet up once a month to make pouches to keep our little joeys safe and warm. Meet at Grumpy's Green at 2pm on the third Sunday of the month. Bring 5ply or 8ply 100% wool and size 8 (4mm) needles. Beginners are most welcome to come along and learn to knit.

For more information on joey pouches and the pattern for the pouches check out the Wildlife Victoria website here:

Grumpy's Green is an eco-friendly bar, so a great place to make stuff for our local wildlife. You can check out more info about them here:

The address is 125 Smith St Fitzroy, and it is easily accessible via bicycle or the 86 tram. There's usually a bit of parking around for your car, but a lot of it has parking meters.

Hi Marise. Hope you had a nice time. I am unwell and couldn't manage the trip from here. Bugger! I am thinking of getting a yarn bombing group together over the s side of town. Kind of pointless knitting but ppl seem to enjoy. Trying to find out more information about how. Best wishes and well done.

Hi Debbie, my apologies for the delayed reply. I say go for it! You can promote the event through this Meetup and through the Melbourne Alternative Crafters Facebook page. Gemma Jones at Craft Vic is a good person to ask for more information and Laura too! Here is Gemma's email: [masked]

My apologies. I have an unexpected family visit and so cannot make it today. I hope to see you all next month.
