Building Node.js applications on Windows Azure

Building Node.js applications on Windows Azure – Aidan Casey , solutions architect @MYOB

Node.js is a server side platform built on Google’s V8 JavaScript engine that enables you to easily build lightweight scalable network applications. Although it is just three years old, Node.js is gaining traction as an application development platform - letting developers extend JavaScript beyond the browser and into servers.

This session will include an introduction to Node.js. You’ll learn how to create, debug and deploy Node.js apps on Azure. You’ll get a better understanding of the types of systems that lend themselves to being developed on Node.js.

The talk will include code demos, tips and tricks on getting the best from this new technology

We will also have our usual News segment prior to this talk.

the topic was well presented with good balance of content and speed, enough to tickle someone interest. Node.js seems nifty and cool in its own way and having cloud9 built entire IDE using Node.js makes it a serious platform beyond quick messaging and chat room

Still trying to figure out where it best would fit application wise beyond chat or ticker.

It was a nice beginners introduction to Node.js and a few commonly used packages.

Pizza was served, always a plus :) - Interesting to see node.js on the Azure platform however there wasn't a lot to be said about the actual azure/node.js integration which would have made the talk something interesting rather than the basic node.js fare.

The talk was good, if a bit shallow, and I would really like to see more focused on Azure rather than just node.js
