Code demo - Building a simple CMS powered by MongoDB

To help illustrate some of the advantages of MongoDB I am going to talk through a very simple CMS powered by MongoDB that i've written to illustrate some of MongoDB's unique features. As inevitably when you start using MongoDB you tend to bring pre-conceptions as to how all databases should work and sometimes this knowledge can get in the way.

Code from the demo will be posted on GitHub after the meetup so members can download and have a play themselves.

It was a small meetup (possibly because of the terrible weather that we were having) Given the relatively small size meant we had quite an intimate meetup. (It felt more like a roundtable discussion)
About half of the attendees where using MongoDB in production, with the other half being curious about Mongo. I talked through a simple ruby app that I wrote to demonstrate how MongoDB can simplify your codebase for achieving simple tasks such as implementing tagging and nested documents. (the code is available here http://github.com/dougalmacpherson/simple-mongodb-cms)

Tim Bull stood up and was able to help me elaborate on some of tricks that MongoDB allows you to do with regards to querying/updating documents. Since we had our swag from 10gen - we were able to hand out books to those that were curious about Mongo and had the most questions. The more experienced mongo members where grateful to receive a mongodb t-shirt each on the condition that they give a talk at the next meetup

Lots of great discussion around the demo. People there have used mongoDB with ruby, F# and python, so lots of stories. Would like to see a presentation by @timbull or @benjaminpearson next time, sounds like they've got a lot to share.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
