Lets talk MongoDB with Roger from 10gen

Roger from 10gen is in town on the 6th of March, so we've booked him for a talk.

Most recently Roger incubated the west coast office for 10gen, the company behind Mongodb.

He's currently working on a stealth project at a stealth startup in the SF Bay area :) and has over 20 years of experience building and delivering great and innovative products to market and has deep expertise and knowledge of database architectures and internals.

He holds several patents for database and middleware technology. His experience leading product development and engineering teams includes 12 years with Oracle's Database and Application Server development organization where he pioneered products that delivered distributed and heterogeneous interoperability, as well as several years as SVP of product operations and engineering at Apple's PowerSchool division.

For the talk:

Roger suggests that we "discuss schema design and database deployments with mongoDB".

He's also open to suggestions here, and can also do a Q&A session afterwards on some of the new features in mongoDB 2.0 as well.

Regardless the talk topics, we'll keep it interactive!

It was a fantastic night - very interesting topics discussed including ways to structure data for easier querying and performance and the geo-spatial talk by Dougal. Is there any chance also to put Roger's presentation online for us? Thank you all for a great meetup.

My first MongoDB talk and meetup. Definitely worth it and informative given that adoption "down under" is so small.

The meetup was good, but it could be better if there're some real case studies to share.

Despite Dougal's dubious claim to not be a good speaker, it was an entertaining talk.

It was great to hear Rogers "history of Mongo" and how it was designed to be used, then compare against how we are using it. Great group, will be coming back :)
