I enjoyed watching the remake of Evil Dead. Even though I'm not a huge fan of horror movies, I liked seeing the story unfold.

As always, it's great to see everyone from the group! And, thanks again Felicia for telling us about the passes! Always appreciated.

I thought the movie was okay. When you're up against Sam Raimi's original, you are on a very uphill climb! Terra-gallons of gore, some fun moments here and there, but that was mostly it. The best parts were the pre-title sequence and the special appearance by a certain well-known "The Evil Dead" star after the End Credits!

I look forward to seeing you all next time! Plus, I guess we all know how the pass people freak out if you bring your cell phones (or, in my case, an iPod!).

Yeah, I kind of agree with you, John. The movie was okay, but it seems like Alvarez and Cody were a bit too obsessed with gore, and because of that, story took a back seat. It's almost like the big budget doomed this film. The original Evil Dead had a laughable budget, but it was a good film. If Alvarez hadn't had the bucks to buy buckets of blood, perhaps he would've been forced to craft a truly scary movie rather than fetishistically clinging to gore.

Agreed, Felicia! Well made observation! Yeah, the best part was outside the film with the special appearance by you-know-who after the End Credits! I just re-watched "Army of Darkness," and I loved the heck out of that! The "Evil Dead" remake, not so much! :-)

How are you finding these I keep looking but never have any luck

The movie studios occasionally send me information. I'm not sure how others are getting free movies passes, though.

Ah, I've been on the fobo page looking but not many posted there

Felicia and David, I've seen the original! I was just making a joke (that's why the winking emoticon). With a name like "Evil Dead," you're pretty much expecting a horror movie! I agree, without Sam Raimi's unique style, this is sounding more like a straight horror movie. See you on Tuesday! John

    Hello All !!
I'm new to the group, although I recognize a few faces from other Mettup Groups. I hope to make it Tuesday.
I see that the movie states that it is first come - first serve on seating and that it is normally over sold. Is there a group meeting time or location prior to entering the theater?

    • Felicia

Matt, in these free screening situations it's every man (woman) for himself. We usually meetup at the water fountain after the screening to discuss the movie and see if anyone wants to do dinner/drinks. I can't go out, though, after the movie because I've got work the next morning.

Based on the trailers I've seen, the film appears to take itself much more seriously than the original, far less campy, more gore... I'm with you Felicia, removing the campy touches would be a mistake... I hope I'm wrong. John, I'd strongly recommend seeing the original so you know why this is such a cult classic.

Got my pass! See all of you there! So, I have to ask: this "Evil Dead," is it a horror movie or what? ;-)

    March 29, 2013

    • Felicia

@John: Yeah--it's supposed to be a horror film. I hope it's as campy as the original, though.
