Hike Shelby Forest!!!

AGENDA: We will meet at the Kroger's on Poplar and Highland in East Memphis at 8:30 AM Sunday morning and then carpool/caravan to Millington!!! I will be parked in the section closer to McAlister's. I drive a red Pontiac Solstice. Call when you get there,[masked]-8080. THERE IS LIMITED/NO CELL SERVICE IN THE PARK!

Please call me before 8:45 if you wish to meet me at Visitor's center at the Park. Once I get near the park, I do not have cell signal.

Once we arrive at the state park, we will choose one of many trail options. Trails are generally of moderate difficulty with some uphill and downhill slopes, nothing crazy, but expect them to be somewhat strenuous. There are a few exposed tree roots and rocks on the trail and so open-toed shoes are not recommended.

LOCATION INFO: Bordering on the mighty Mississippi River, two-thirds of this 13,467-acre park are bottomland hardwood forests of large oak, cypress and tupelo. The park also contains two lakes and many miles of hiking trails. The park maintains a boat ramp on the Mississippi River. Deer, turkey, beaver and some 200 species of birds are abundant. The park campground provides 49 campsites equipped with table, grill, electrical and water hookups. A modern bathhouse provides hot showers. There is a dump station for self-contained trailer rigs. Sites are available on a first-come, first served basis, however reservations may be made well in advance through the visitor center. Reservations may be made for campsites and are recommended during major holidays call to reserve:[masked]-5215.

WHAT TO BRING: !!!!!Plenty of water!!!!, bug spray, sunscreen, hat, sunglassess, good shoes, spare socks and/or clothes (if you sweat like me), daypack/backpack, camera/camcorder, hiking stick (optional), binoculars, light snacks/trail mix, and a positive attitude.

Sorry I missed everyone. I drove too far on Hwy 51 and was very late. I hiked the 3 mile loop and enjoyed it but had to stop and rest after every hill.

I forgot to change my RSVP. I will not be going. Call me at[masked] if you need directions. Howard is leading the hike. He will meet you all at the park and NOT at Kroger. Sorry for the late notice.

I feel terrible. All this time I thought this was Saturday. It wasn't until I saw the Bats event and thought, hey I could do the hike in the morning ad then head to the Bats event that evening on my way out of town... I really look forward to attending and meeting everyone in the near future.
