HERB PARSONS - First Saturday of Every Month

THIS IS A 5.5 MILE+/2-4 HOUR HIKE AROUND THE LAKE... Come join us for a hike around Herb Parsons Lake. This place is close by - less than 5 miles from Collierville and just a bit more from Arlington. See directions at the link below. Much of the hike is lake side with great views. You will love it.

We will meet near the deck at the store/bait shop (you can see it as soon as you pull into the park). Bring snacks, water, sunscreen, and a hat. Wear and either sneakers or hiking boots and dress in layers. It is also good to bring a backpack if you wish to remove layers. Bring bug spray. Ticks are becoming a problem so make sure your bugspray works for ticks.

VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!

If you use google maps, it will tell you to take 40 E to 64 E to 269 S. 269 S is actually 385. Google Map of our regular meetup locations.

Coordinates for Herb Parsons Lake: N[masked]°, W[masked]°

This is an easy hike on mostly well marked trails, perfect for those new to hiking. We hike between 2-4 hours.

Call if you have questions or are running late,[masked]-8270.

Heading around the lake to the right (counterclockwise). If you arrive late, it'll be easy to catch up with us.

I see that people are canceling. I live in Bartlett. I don't want to take the risk of driving there and no one is there. This is my first time with the group. I watched the posts this morning.

    • Gavin A.

Danielle, don't worry. It's not uncommon for some people to have to cancel at the last minute. But the hike is still a go. See you at 10 a.m.

So sad I can't make it tomorrow! I know I originally said I could come but I'll have to catch the next one! Have fun :)

Guys, some have asked if this will be cancelled on account of rain. The plan is to hike regardless. The rain is predicted to be light. Temperate in the low 60's (though the rain will make it feel like 57 or so), so it really shouldn't be bad.

Will this be cancelled if it rains tomorrow?

    January 31, 2014

    • Gavin A.

No. Prediction is for a light rain. So, I would recommend wearing a rain jacket, though.

This is one of our regular monthly hikes and it's pretty rare that we cancel it, rain, shine, or snow — we're there.

My two teenage kids are coming. I want them to enjoy hiking as well. Thanks to Dana for all of her tips.

Excellent! Look forward to seeing you there at 9:30 a.m.

Guys, sorry I didn't catch this earlier. We are still observing winter hours on this hike — starting a little later in the morning, to take advantage of slightly warmer temps. So, will notice the time now says 9:30 a.m.

    1 · January 26, 2014

  • Darwin C.

Adele and I are coming. BTW, is it 9:00 AM or Winter hours like the last one?

    1 · January 26, 2014

    • Gavin A.

Good catch. Thanks, should still be winter hours, until Spring equinox.
