Cane Creek Canyon-Tuscumbia, AL-10am(departs Arlington at 7:30-)A SPECIAL PLACE!

Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve Wildflower/Waterfall Hike , Tuscumbia, AL -THE WILDFLOWWERS ARE AT THEIR PEAK!  This is a deep canyon and a VERY HEFTY CLIMB OUT - IT IS TOUGH for this old fat man! If you haven't hiked at least 5 miles with lots of hills lately - this hike is NOT for you!
Bring your camera - there will be plenty of time to photograph the plants.  Plan on a long day hiking 8 miles. Probably won't be back before dark.  Bring snacks, lunch and plenty of water.  Those carpooling/caravanning with me - we will stop for a fast food breakfast on the way.  If the group desires we will stop for dinner on the way home...

Cane Creek Canyon Preserve is a privately owned property in northwest Alabama that protects a diverse set of habitats including steep canyons, rockhouses, karst forests, bogs, waterfalls, and creek sides; all supporting an equally diverse flora. We expect to see an impressive number of spring ephemerals such as large yellow lady’s slipper, several azaleas, trilliums, and other species we recognize as being associated with the Cumberland Plateau.

I will be departing the Arlington Visitor's Center at 7:30 sharp for anyone wishing to carpool/caravan from there.  Or you meet at the Yogi's Texaco at 17750 US 72 at 10am - and caravan over to the hike location.  Feel free to set up other carpools/caravans.  We will be setting up a shuttle as we will hike in one entrance and come out at another.

Difficulty: moderate, may be some steep sections and wet areas.

Facilities: There are clean porta-potties onsite and they actually provide coolers of water placed around the property - the Lacefield's home is off limits!

We got to the Point and took a vote - go down the trail or go down the side of the mountain. The vote was to go down the side of the mountain. So we ventured off trail and "made a memory" - we slipped and grabbed hold of anything we could, maneuvered around bolders and climed over rocks - but we all made it. It took a a while and I think we all had some cuts and scratches - not to mention a few bruises that will show up tomorrow along with the muscle aches. But what a group of troupers as we went on to do 7.7 up and down miles. I could not have asked for a more perfect day - sunshine, perfect temps, tons of wildflowers and a great group of friends.

Good morning. I live in Walnut MS. Could we meet you and not have to travel to Memphis and then double back. It would cut over 100 miles driving time for us on Saturday.
