Buffalo River-Ozarks Hikes - Weekend of May 2/3/4 (check often for updates)

  • May 3, 2014 · 7:00 AM

It's been a couple of years since we've been to the Buffalo National River (BNR) in the Arkansas Ozarks.  http://www.nps.gov/buff/index.htm.  There is so much to do and see.

LIABILITY WAIVER:  By signing up for and/or attending this event, you hold harmless and release all organizers, transporters, and participants from any and all liability and accept responsibility for yourself and your guests.  Only you know your skill level and ability and you acknowledge the inherent risks and dangers of hiking in rough terrain.

Our regular morning meetup point for the day will be the Ozark Cafe (107 East Court, Jasper AR).  We will be meeting at the Ozark Cafe 7am for breakfast, Departing 8pm for the trail. If you think you will be running late "THIS" will be the time to get in touch with either of us VIA Cellphone.

Breakfast and Dinner is usually at the Ozark Cafe. Lunches will be on your own and generally on trail. There are a few country stores in the area but nothing reliable as we never know where we will be until we get there. So if at all possible pack it with you.

HIKES:  There will be several hikes at different skill levels.  Please do not start a hike that you feel you are not able to complete comfortably.  These generally will be short hikes, the longest usually will be 7ish miles or so. Difficulty will be tailored to the group at hand. There will be driving to the hikes and car pooling where and when possible.

LODGING:  You can camp, stay in a motel or rent a cabin.  Post sharing opportunities in "comments".

Howard is staying at Gordon's Motel in downtown Jasper.  It is old and hasn't been updated since the 1960s, but run by great people. ($60-2 beds $75-3 beds)[masked]  http://www.gordonmotel.com/.

BNR Campsites:  Ozark campground is about 10 minutes away from Jasper. http://www.nps.gov/buff/planyourvisit/feesandreservations.htm

TRANSPORTATION:  Everyone is responsible for getting there and back.  Please post in the "comments" when you might be leaving so you might hookup with others who wish to carpool/caravan.

Howard will be leaving Friday morning catching a few sites/hikes along the way.

CONTACTS:  Howard:[masked]     Eddie:[masked]

NOTE:  Last time I was up there, CELL SERVICE IS LIMITED but you can usually get it when you drive to the top of a mountain.

I plan on leaving early (5/6am) Friday morning if anyone wishes to carpool. I think I will be heading to Blanchard Springs area to hike/explore on the way up. I also have two bed room if anyone wants to share expenses ($33.60 per night for your half).

Dogwood Springs has cabins, a campground, and trailer hook-ups. I stay there often when I go there. They are in Jasper too! Best value and clean. Lots of hiking trails, elk, wild flowers, old pioneer homesites, etc. I go there often!
