This will fill up quick!  Make reservations per below NOW.  Specific details forthcoming as to when we will leave...

The Mississippi River Corridor invites you to join archaeologist Bill Lawrence for a pontoon boat cruise and short hike to explore prehistoric Indian mounds at Reelfoot Lake.  For thousands of years before the lake was created by the earthquakes of[masked], Native Americans lived in the region and left their mark on the landscape by constructing hundreds of mounds near what is now the shoreline of Reelfoot Lake.  We will meet at the Visitor Center at Reelfoot Lake State Park at 1:00pm and take a scenic pontoon boat cruise across the lake to an area that was once the site of a large prehistoric village.  Mr. Lawrence has been involved in archaeological research at Reelfoot for more than 20 years and will share his extensive knowledge of the prehistoric residents of the region.  We will take a short hike to visit an impressive group of 21 Indian mounds that are seldom seen by visitors to Reelfoot.  Please be sure to wear long pants and sturdy shoes or boots. Arrive at Visitor Center at 12:45 - Boat leaves 1pm sharp.  Fee is $10 per person, call (731)[masked] for reservations.

There was a larger crowd than expected and moved at a faster pace. Still it was much fun and very interesting.

REMINDER - If you did not make a reservation with the park - you do not have a seat on the boat. CARPOOL/CARAVAN departs Kroger Arlington (11635 Hwy 70 - I will be parked in the lot next to Hwy 70) promptly at 7am. It's a 2 hour drive and we will stop for a fastfood breakfast/bathroom break about halfway. This will give us a little time for a short hike before having an early lunch about 11:30 to get us at the boat launch by 12:45pm. After the boat ride, we the group can decide what it wants to do.

Wear close toed shoes and long pants and don't forget some water and your camera/binocs.

I made reservations for the 6pm trip and would like to carpool with you Denia, if you still have room. I figure the sunset is only going to add to the adventure!

people are still signing up for this event but I think the boat trip has been full for some time - IF YOU HAVE NOT MADE RESERVATIONS PER THE INSTRUCTIONS, YOU DO NOT HAVE A SEAT ON THE BOAT, but you are welcome to go anyway and enjoy all the other things Reelfoot SP has to offer - there may seats left on the sunset hike - but call and check.
