The Mississippi River Corridor invites you to join archaeologist Bill Lawrence for a pontoon boat cruise and short hike to explore prehistoric Indian mounds at Reelfoot Lake. For thousands of years before the lake was created by the earthquakes of[masked], Native Americans lived in the region and left their mark on the landscape by constructing hundreds of mounds near what is now the shoreline of Reelfoot Lake. We will meet at the Visitor Center at Reelfoot Lake State Park at 1:00pm and take a scenic pontoon boat cruise across the lake to an area that was once the site of a large prehistoric village. Mr. Lawrence has been involved in archaeological research at Reelfoot for more than 20 years and will share his extensive knowledge of the prehistoric residents of the region. We will take a short hike to visit an impressive group of 21 Indian mounds that are seldom seen by visitors to Reelfoot. Please be sure to wear long pants and sturdy shoes or boots.
