Hike Shelby Forest!!!

PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS CAREFULLY!!!!!

Most of your questions will be answered here.

If Dana is leading the hike, we will meet at the Kroger's on Poplar and Highland in East Memphis at 8:30 AM Sunday morning and then carpool/caravan to Millington.  She will be parked in the section closer to McAlister's. She drives a red Pontiac Solstice. Call her if you are running late,[masked]-8080.

Please call Dana between 8:30-8:45 if you wish to meet her at the Visitor's center at the Park. There is no cell cell signal near the park. You must call or text her that day. (Dana requires confirmation that day because a lot of time members do a no show.) She will not know until 8:45 what time we will be arriving in the park until that morning. If you are meeting us at the park and you get lost, call the visitor's center. THERE IS LIMITED/NO CELL SERVICE IN THE PARK!

Trails are generally of moderate difficulty with some uphill and downhill slopes, nothing crazy, but expect them to be somewhat strenuous. There are a few exposed tree roots and rocks on the trail and so open-toed shoes are not recommended. Jeans are not recommended.

Once we arrive at the state park, we will choose one of many trail options. If Dana is leading the hike, we will be doing the three mile loop if all of the members are up to it. The three mile loop usually takes a couple of hours. We usually are done by 11-11:30. We usually stop and eat at the general store afterwards.

LOCATION INFO:

Bordering on the mighty Mississippi River, two-thirds of this 13,467-acre park are bottomland hardwood forests of large oak, Cypress and Tupelo. The park also contains two lakes and many miles of hiking trails. The park maintains a boat ramp on the Mississippi River. Deer, turkey, beaver and some 200 species of birds are abundant. The park campground provides 49 campsites equipped with table, grill, electrical and water hookups. A modern bathhouse provides hot showers. There is a dump station for self-contained trailer rigs. Sites are available on a first-come, first served basis, however reservations may be made well in advance through the visitor center. Reservations may be made for campsites and are recommended during major holidays call to reserve:[masked]-5215.

WHAT TO BRING:

Plenty of water, bug spray, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, good shoes, spare socks and/or clothes (if you sweat like me), day-pack/backpack, camera/camcorder, hiking stick (optional), binoculars, light snacks/trail mix, and a positive attitude.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
