Germantown Greenway Walk

DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER: we will be hiking on the Germantown Greenway side of the Wolf River this month. Please meet at the Chick-fil-A. The entrance to the park is at the intersection of Walnut Bend and Germantown road across from a gas station (just south of Walnut Grove). There is a HUGE sign that says Gate 19, Shelby Farms. If you are at Lowes, head north. If you are at Wal-Mart or Trinity. head south.

What to Bring:

Bring snacks, water, sunscreen, and a hat. Wear either sneakers or hiking boots and dress in layers. It is also good to bring a backpack if you wish to remove layers. Bring bug spray. This is an easy hike on well marked trails, perfect for those new to hiking. We hike between 2-4 hours. If you go the whole way out and back, it is just over 7 miles. We usually break into at least two groups (those going all the way and those going part), so don't feel like you have to do the whole 7 miles.

Directions:

The parking lot we meet at for the Germantown Greenway hike is the Chick-fil-A parking lot on Germantown Pkwy, near our normal Lucius Burch hike.

It was still marked as closed and dangerous, from Thursday's flash flood, but we found it to be perfectly alright, with only a few spots with dried mud.

All, even though it is overcast, I'm seeing no forecast of rain. The walk will continue on as planned. I'm at the trailhead now (just wanted to make sure to be here early). See everyone at 9:30.

I am interested in doing the short walk since it is my first. Is it fast paced?

This is a well marked public paved walk, so I see no problem with you going back earlier than the group.

Gavin, would this still be a 7 mile hike?

It works out to a little bit more than that, but on paved, easy trails. We can poll the group and decide to cut it shorter, if that's too much for folks. It's an out and back hike, and we don't have to go all the way to the turn around.

Due to the deluge of water that we got today, we will go ahead and walk on the other side of the river this Saturday the paved side: Germantown Greenway. Please meet at the Chick-fil-A.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
