I'm sorry I have missed out on all the convo and sorry this has been cancelled. I guess I should change my email preferences)! I will definitely like to go on the next one and will be on an organizing group. My cell phone is[masked]-8508.
For anyone interested, if you are a member of the Wolf River Conservancy, the first Saturday of each month they have a supported paddle trip on a section of the Wolf River. I have gone on one and it is a good way for inexperienced kayakers to get started.

I just checked with Eddie Miller who, if you don't know him, is an instructor and authority on this subject. He advises that the water is very low right now and that this isn't the best time to be on the river. I thank Dana for having a great idea but it is looking like the meetup should be canceled. Maybe we can schedule another trip sometime.

I agree. We have recently added the ability for people to "suggest a meetup." Why don't you go ahead and take the collected information from this, and use that feature. This will put it in the hopper for a later date. Thanks!
Gavin- That sounds like a good idea.
Work has been intense and I'm in the middle of home renovations. I haven't been able to do squat. I am not sure if I will even be able to go. Someone needs to take over. Get a count of folks definitely interested. Pick a camp site. Pick a rental place. Make reservations. Sorry I am not able to help more. I've bitten off way more than I can chew.

Dana, I added my family to the RSVP. Reading the comments thread I see there may be a lot of questions in the air as to outfitter, exact location, and camping. You are also looking for help organizing. Lisa seems to have volunteered. This close to deadline we need to settle these questions. So, I volunteer to help organize. Please contact me directly to fill me in on what I need to do to help.

Dana, I can help if you still need it. Let me know what you need this sounds like an awesome trip.

Not to answer for Dana, which is what I guess I am doing, but I think she wants someone to take lead on this and find a place to go, find out the prices, availability, etc. It it doesn't pan out this coming weekend, maybe the next weekend, I don't know. This is Dana's brainchild but she wants someone to give it legs and make it go.
Wish I could go, but I will be on a Boy Scout camping trip that weekend with my oldest. Hope it works out for you guys!
I can assist with carpooling I live in Lakeland.
I would love to do this. Please let me know what I can do to help get this going. Im In!

I missed your post. Are you still willing to help?

Who is in charge of getting this organized? It looks like very little is formalized with only about a week to go....
See post on my post 4/29 and my response to Bill Brents.
Hay Matt, I just noticed this was an older post may months ago and it looks like there are no organizers. I just noticed it yesterday and signed up for it.
I think many would like to go if it can be organized in a week. A post of Dana's did say it was an idea, but she needed help to plan and get it going. If anyone has the urge to be lead on this...
I did ask for help planning on 4/29. As of now, no one stepped up. I am going to cancel on Sunday if no one offers helps. I am not willing to plan something this big by myself.
Are there any other details like where we might go? Looked up Buffalo River in TN and this place came up http://www.crazyhorsecanoe.com it shows prices and has a place to camp etc.

Would like to car pool with someone, I live in Germantown.
I plan on taking my Kayak and camping. Is anybody camping or taking there boat?
I work that day, but will try to get off. Sounds awesome.

I'd probably do it as a day trip so I'd be willing to carpool to help out.

I don't canoe, hope all will join you sounds fun!!

I am not up to the challenge of organizing this alone. I either need some help or I am going to cancel it.
Has anyone made arrangements or have suggestions on renting Canoe/kayaks for this trip?

I think the best Outfitter would be Topsy Turvy in Waynesboro.
0 · October 3, 2012
Would anyone besides me be interested in going over the afternoon before and camping out?
0 · October 2, 2012
We camped at Buffalo Point before. Its nice and they have a restaurant too. The only negative is that is if filled with racoons. They would come right up to you while you were sitting by the fire. We had to keep everything in our cars, food, coolers, etc. to keep them out of it. Don't keep any food in your tent either! I guess its similar to what you would do when camping in a bear populated area.

Would like to go but whats the details?
0 · July 27, 2012
This sounds really fun
0 · July 26, 2012
Ooh - now with the new date I can go :)

We paddled a 9 mile section of the Buffalo 3 summers ago and I think we used Buffalo Outdoor Center. We camped and the National Park campground and it was one of only 2 campgrounds that have bathrooms. The float is very remote and gorgeous! Also great for smallmouth fishing!
0 · June 21, 2012
Quality. They are all about the same. I like Buffalo Outdoor Center. They are up in Ponca but I think the service all of the area. Don't know about prices as I never use a outfitter.
0 · June 12, 2012
Sounds good. Any recommendations on outfitters?
Hahahaha damn spell check. That should be a drag over. The water will be really really low. You may have to do the lower lower sections like around Buffalo point. Upper sections will normally go underground during this time of year.
Err... what is a "drag tater"?
0 · June 10, 2012
Better stick with the tubes as it surely will be a drag tater than a float in August.

Camp sites are available here, http://www.nps.gov/buff/planyourvisit/index.htm. I am think about heading out Friday, kayaking Saturday, and hiking or tubing Sunday.
I found this sight with rental info. What looks good to y'all?
