Hike Shelby Forest!!!

AGENDA: We will meet at the Kroger's on Poplar and Highland in East Memphis at 8:30 AM Sunday morning and then carpool/caravan to Millington!!! I will be parked in the section closer to McAlister's. I drive a red Pontiac Solstice. Call when you get there,[masked]-8080. THERE IS LIMITED/NO CELL SERVICE IN THE PARK!

Please call me before 8:45 if you wish to meet me at Visitor's center at the Park. Once I get near the park, I do not have cell signal.

Once we arrive at the state park, we will choose one of many trail options. Trails are generally of moderate difficulty with some uphill and downhill slopes, nothing crazy, but expect them to be somewhat strenuous. There are a few exposed tree roots and rocks on the trail and so open-toed shoes are not recommended.

LOCATION INFO: Bordering on the mighty Mississippi River, two-thirds of this 13,467-acre park are bottomland hardwood forests of large oak, cypress and tupelo. The park also contains two lakes and many miles of hiking trails. The park maintains a boat ramp on the Mississippi River. Deer, turkey, beaver and some 200 species of birds are abundant. The park campground provides 49 campsites equipped with table, grill, electrical and water hookups. A modern bathhouse provides hot showers. There is a dump station for self-contained trailer rigs. Sites are available on a first-come, first served basis, however reservations may be made well in advance through the visitor center. Reservations may be made for campsites and are recommended during major holidays call to reserve:[masked]-5215.

WHAT TO BRING: !!!!!Plenty of water!!!!, bug spray, sunscreen, hat, sunglassess, good shoes, spare socks and/or clothes (if you sweat like me), daypack/backpack, camera/camcorder, hiking stick (optional), binoculars, light snacks/trail mix, and a positive attitude.

Wonder hike with a great group of people. Scenery was wonderful and the trails ranges from intense hills to smooth bottoms. A must hike for the Mid south.

Please read the info for the hike on the full website carefully. There are explicit instructions if you are meeting me at the park. Please do not post personal phone numbers. 900+ members will have access to it.

I'm looking forward to my first outing with the group. I will meet at the park since it is closer to my house than the meeting place.

I will be meeting everyone there at the park. Are dogs allowed on this hike, and if so, is anyone bringing one? I know of a friendly dog who sometimes likes to walk, and I can ask him if he wants to come. Does he have to be a member of the group to come? A profile picture isn't possible, he is camera shy and tends to bite people with cameras.

It's safe to assume since if Dana is leading this one, it is dog-friendly. But I'll let her chime in officially on this.
