Welcome Meetup - How can Technology Help Improve Mental Health

  • Mar 21, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Hi everyone,

Welcome to our very first Mental Health 2.0 Meetup in San Francisco!

Let's meet at 7:00PM and people can spend the first 30 minutes socializing and settling in. At 7:30PM, we will start the event by introducing our guest speaker from NAMI SF (National Alliance on Mental Illness). Our guest speaker will talk a little bit about her organization and the needs/challenge in mental health from NAMI's prospective. Afterward, we will give each person a couple of mins to talk about their personal/professional interests relating to mental health and/or technology - It can be new ideas, personal experience, problems in mental health system, startup projects, etc.

Afterward, we will have an open group discussion and a wrap-up before closing around 9PM.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone! There will be light refreshments for people to snack on. :)

Inspirational discussion last night and I really look forward to future meetups. Feel free to contact me if you're looking for someone with my background as a clinician to collaborate on a project or help in any way!

It was great meeting you all! I hope everybody had a good time and learned something new. The energy and the vibe people brought to the meeting are what we need to make a difference in the long run. I am looking forward to seeing new ideas and actions coming out of the group. Thank you all!

Good meeting you all and looking forward to the next one. I'd be interested in doing some kind of growth hack / viral campaign on twitter to spread awareness and reduce stigma, and maybe also improving NAMIs presence.. Anyone else also?

TechShop is huge; is the meeting room really so small that 30 is the max? (If so, you need a bigger venue).

Also, Meetups are notorious for poor attendee/rsvp ratio and by the time it's obvious that waitlisters could have come, it;'s too late to tell them. hat's your plan for that?

    March 15, 2013

    • Kathy L.

Vicki, I was told 30 is the absolute max we can have at TechShop. For future meetups, we have a space that can accomodate up to 150 people. Unfortunately, this space is not available for our first meetup.

I will send a reminder to everyone about the space limit, and hopefully our members are sensible and would respect other members's desire to join.

Really exciting! Are you on twitter?

    March 15, 2013

    • Kathy L.

Yes, we are on twitter but not quite ready to go live yet. We are in the process of getting twitter/FB/G+ community ready so members can share ideas with our sister group, Mental Health 2.0 NYC.

Its possible Techshop SF would host the meetup, but there is competition from other groups no doubt.

William, thanks for the suggestion. I will keep the TechShop option in mind. Paul is helping us out, and we will find a location soon. Don't worry.

TechShop SF will be hosting our first meetup! Thanks for the recommendation!

I prefer SF too. 7pm or later is ideal. Thanks!

I live in Santa Clara but don't mind traveling to SF. It makes it easier if the meetups are a little later, like 7:30pm. I am the organizer for this meetup: http://www.meetup.com/San-Jose-Electronics-Robotics-and-RC/

I can provide a meeting location in the evenings in SOMA at 4th/Townsend, across from the train station...evenings and weekends. Up to about 8-10 people.
