Bike Delaware Canal to Lambertville Shad Fest

Lets meet at the canal near the Washington Crossing, NJ side, Bridge at 11 AM Saturday April 26. The Shad Fest runs all weekend and is the premier event in this area. Bring any kind of wider tire bike, hybrid, mountain, bike lock, bring water bottles and small pack with extra clothes, money, there will be plenty of food at the fest. Road bike not recommended on the gravel canal trail. We will bike north along the canal to Lambertville and lock our bikes together once we get there, I have 1 bike cable lock, anyone else with one should bring it. This is a flat, moderate ride. Those that want to enjoy the Shad Fest festivities (all kinds of vendors: food, arts, crafts, live music) can stop, those that want a longer ride can keep going north on the canal towards Stockton and turn around to join us later. We will head back after a few hours, I guess its a 35-40 min bike ride each way. Directions: The parking lot is at the Washington Crossing Bridge intersection on the NJ side along side the canal and River Road. At the Bridge intersection/light at River Road and Rt 546 you head towards the Washington Crossing Bridge. After you cross the canal but before you reach the Bridge there is a road on right going North along the river, River Drive. 20 yards north is a parking lot along the canal. Sorry this doesn't come up on mapquest.

Awesome day, small group. Francine and Pat, glad you could make it! Great weather to bike ride. Shadfest was awesome, we ate great food, saw great art, talked to several people who make a living doing arts and crafts. I highly recommend to anyone to attend Sunday as this is the best yearly event in the area. When Francines chain jammed into her sprocket in New Hope we were stranded their for a while until we fortunately obtained a wrench, thanks to Pats quick thinking.

Unfortunately, I've been called into work this weekend. I have no time for a bike ride. Hope to catch you on the next outing.

I think the rain is after this event, I think it will be okay, but of course I will pack a poncho. I have a girlfriend coming too. This sounds like a great event.. too bad there are not more people coming?

Dave and Francine, weather not looking too good for biking tomorrow, rain overnight and 40% chance of rain in PM. Check for my post before leaving tomorrow, Definitely pack a rain coat if we go. What do you think?

    All,
Forgot to mention, helmets are strongly recommended. This ride is not very strenuous, if you stop in Lambertville, suggest you join us!!

    Tom,
I have locked bikes together in Lambertville on the canal fence near Lambertville Station & Main Street. Since there will be a lot of people walking around, we can lock them on a fence farther south but still in Lambertville. When we come up along the canal there is a park with kids playground and small duck pond. We can lock bikes at fence there. My bike is old, it can be the outside bike, unlikely anyone is going to take them.

Any suggestions on where to lock up our bikes? I only know of 2 such areas (by Triumph and by Lambertville Station) and with the crowds they expect for these events, where can we protect our bikes?
