Saturday Afternoon Galleries and Balcony Bar

Let's explore the Met together every other Saturday with as little pressure as possible.

Go in the 81st entrance (not up the big stairs), and head straight back to the Uris Center for Education. We'll be at the set of benches in the middle on the left inside the room. At 4:15pm we will split up.

We'll decide who will go see what with whom, wander galleries, and meet at the north entrance to the Balcony Bar at 5:30pm for cocktails, mocktails, and small plates to chat. We'll get tables at 5:40pm.

Everyone is responsible for their own admission and tab. I recommend you bring cash for your tab to make settling the check easier.

There are three of us. We're at the end of the trellis on the right. Sitting in front of the ivy. I have a bag that is blue and orange.

Hi Wendy, I can't communicate with you on site because I don't have a hand held device either. You always do such a wonderful job with organizing the group.

Hi Wendy, I love that you started the group and the simple plan. And we realize that you're not going to be there every time. Actually having the break on the roof is a nice idea. Just something to plan ahead. Even for people with smart phones, it doesn't necessarily occur to anyone that there's a reason to check meetup---we follow the usual plan. See you another time !

Hi Wendy. Believe it or not, not everyone has hand-held communication devices. We go by what was planned. 3 of us were at the usual balcony bar spot at 5:30. Yes, the 81st st entrance was closed, but the balcony bar wasn't. If you want to change the snack/drink meeting place, please do it ahead of time by late morning of the meetup at the latest. Or, tell the balcony cafe hostess of the new location---we'll ask them if our group is there. We waited 15 minutes and left.

I am sorry that I didn't follow through on my commitment to meeting everyone at 5:30 at the Balcony Bar. I made a couple of wrong assumptions. I will do my best going forward to meet it. However, please note that I won't always be available to attend the Balcony Bar (in fact I wasn't going to be this week, but things changed last minute) and for those who do have smart phones the best way to find the group will likely be to post asking where people are or to check for updates on the event page. Looking forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks!

Hi Richard, not your fault at all. We didn't know the ground level entrance at 81st St. would be closed, so finding the meeting area was a challenge yesterday even for those of us who've been to this meetup. No signs at that entrance spot directing folks to an entry thru the garage so I went up the front steps too.
Since it's a changing group of people, and I arrived late and just went to the galleries and then to the bar, I'm thinking of making little meetup tags to make it possible to hook up with other strays. I love chatting with people so don't mind if it provokes queries from strangers. Or I might just hang my little meetup sign on my purse.

I went to the wrong spot. My fault. I went up the big steps, bought a ticket and asked for the Education Hall. They sent me to the basement, which I knew was incorrect, and then I left. Next time I'll get it right. Hope you had fun.

So the 81st St entrance is closed until mid-July. You can go to the meeting place by going through the parking garage OR up the main stairs, turning left, walking all the way down to where the massive column is, turning left down the stairs to the bottom and turning left again.

Hi Wendy. I can't find anyone at the Balcony Bar... Are you here yet?

We're on the roof! Come on up. We're sitting on the right at the end of the trellis under the ivy.

Unexpected visitor dropped in. Will not be able to make it. I look forward to another time. Enjoy!

Too busy cooking up my fresh herbs and produce from the USQ Greenmarket today. See everyone in two weeks. Have fun!

I probably won't be able to attend this meetup. I hope you all have a wonderful time. I recently saw the exhibition: "Lost Kingdoms: Hindu-Buddhist Sculpture of Early South East Asia, 5th to 8th Century." It is beautifully installed . I highly recommend it.
