We learned a lot of fun, useful and interesting information from Patti. And, thank you for reminding me about the PACE workout!! I had researched this before and then forgot all about it.

    * The five basic PACE principles are:

    1. Work out to target exertion level; then rest.
    2. Allow the body to fully recover between sets.
    3. Aim to progressively increase the intensity as fitness level improves.
    4. Accelerate fitness by dialing up the intensity a little sooner in each workout.
    5. Keep total exertion time to 12 minutes.

    * There is a higher risk of death and disease doing low-intensity workouts like “aerobics.” Harvard studies have proven this; other studies show that lungpower is the #1 predictor of death from ANY cause, and aerobics robs the body of lungpower.

    * High-intensity exercise helps the body choose to build muscle over storing fat because it improves insulin response. And when muscles start sucking up all the glucose so insulin doesn’t have to convert it all, muscles are forced to get bigger and stronger to store the extra energy needed for the next challenge (workout).

    PACE Study Guide
    * The PACE acronym stands for Progressively Accelerating Cardiopulmonary Exertion.

    * You do not need to be in good shape to do PACE The beautiful thing about PACE is that anyone can do it, no matter their current fitness level.

    * The difference between PACE and traditional “cardio” or “aerobics” is that when you exercise for long periods at a low to medium intensity, like with cardio, you train your heart and lungs to get smaller. Aerobics trains your body for endurance and efficiency. But your body was designed and has evolved to need and use power, not efficiency. PACE restores this power.
