Hi all!

We'll be holding our first Meteor LA meetup on Saturday, March 30th, from 2 - 6 p.m. We're being generously hosted by the coworking and event venue Droplabs! (More info on them at http://www.droplabs.net)

From the sound of it -- most people who are in this meetup are curious about Meteor but haven't had too much experience building anything in it. So I decided that what we'll try is spending an afternoon primarily working in Meteor. I'll do a demo of Meteor early on at 2:00 for anyone interested, and we'll spend the majority of the afternoon, from 2:30 - 5:30 working on projects and getting started, and then we'll show what we've done at 5:30.

I'll be around to help people get started and I'll try to get any other active Meteor developers I know to come too.

You should feel free to come whether you're a web developing beginner or veteran! This is as fine a starting point as any to get your feet wet with the web if you're new to it all.

I think that's everything ... let me know if you have questions and I hope to see you there!

Michael

Oops! Forgot to mention that this might be of interest to folks here. Not Meteor-specific but it's "JS-adjacent." ;)

It was a real treat & pleasure hosting LA's first Meteor meetup @Droplabs! Michael, you did a great job! It was evidenced by the fact that at 6:20pm I told Michael "hey, I'll stay here to close up as long as folks are working. I wasn't there when it started so wasn't on-hand during introductions but everyone seemed really cool, respectful & eager to help each other. Droplabs loves hosting events like this & community members like you so we'd be more than happy to do this again next month. :)

I did want to say that I hope noone was offended or felt excluded when Rodrigo & I started conversing full-on, in Spanish. We were discussing open source software, tech, startup culture here in LA & Mexico City, entrepreneurship & PHP & JS frameworks. Oh & Drupal! :)

    Hello all, aka meteorites,

It turns out that Meteor is willing to pay for food! So Droplabs is kindly arranging to have some pizzas and sale at the event. I wanted to let people know, thank both of our generous sponsors, and say that is all until tomorrow! I leave you a preview of the day ahead here: http://color-magic.meteor.com . Served best with a friend.

As a Board Member of Droplabs, I'll be on-hand to answer all of your venue questions. As a web developer, I'm also curious about Meteor & want to learn more. There's plenty of FREE parking inside the lot of Big Art Labs & if that fills up, there's LOTS more FREE street parking. Just follow the signs to Droplabs.

I announced this at Hacker News yesterday and they are definitely on the prowl for speakers, so if you want to maybe demo or discuss your app at a future HN meetup, I can forward you to him.
