Show & Tell & Ale: Demos! NodeConf! Robots!

  • Jul 25, 2013 · 6:30 PM
  • Makeshift HQ #0002 (not the old one)

Build a Meteor demo, as simple or fancy as you like. Then, the clever bit, we meet up and compare notes. The fancy can show off their wares and the curious can learn a trick or two.

This month is a NodeConf and Hardware special! Expect deep cover reportage on Meteor HQ, the workshops and wonders of NodeConf and more Hardware to Meteor web apps, sensors, actuators, Ardunio and drones.

ALL DEMOS WELCOME!

Hello all - I realize this event happened some time ago, but I thought I'd take a shot at getting a response anyway. I'm familiar with building Nodebots (Arduino mostly) and the use of Johnny-Five with NodeJS. However I am having a hard time figuring out how to do this with Meteor.

My question is: Do any of you have tutorials or published packages that will help me get up and running? I appreciate any advice you are willing to give.

Also also, don't forget to have a go at the NodeConf stream-adventure https://npmjs.org/package/stream-adventure
for some terminal based stream edutainment action.

    Great meetup!

I forgot to mention during my talk that the asciify chat channel implementation was courtesy of @olizilla. 7 lines of code awesome.

    Source code is here btw:

Super fun times! Today's Meteor London was brought to you by:

    - Chris: THIS IS METEOR!

    - Paul: http://storyapp.it - "Tell beautiful stories"

    - Alan: http://asciify.meteor.com - "Instant message as ascii art"

    - Jono: So hot right now. Arduino, JS and real time temperatures.

    - Rob: Noise Network - "Real-time noise monitoring"

    - Oli: https://github.com/olizilla/drone-up - "Is drone down for
everyone or is it just me?"

    - Jon: Big red buttons and blinking lights. Getting real with johnny-five

    and super bonus demo
    - Jérome - Remote control cats... with lasers... over the internet, as taster of what's to come at http://london.nodebots.io/

Many thanks to Lloyds TSB for the pizza and beverages and to all of you for making it fun. Now go make things, and demo it next month.

Picking the right tool for the job! and this looks promising! I greatly enjoy Javascript (jQuery, AngularJS). But yet to learn Node and Meteor.

OK everyone, awesome avalanche of YESs on the RSVP. We now have people stuck on the wait-list, so if you know you can't come this evening, please remember to flip the switches and RSVP no, to make space for them.

Also, MOAR DEMOs PLEASE. Your friendly neighbourhood co-organisers will keep building things, but the idea is we all build a thing, small or large, and talk about it. It makes the discussion more interesting if we do. No one is obliged to talk, but please do install Meteor and try out one of the examples: http://www.meteor.com/examples/parties

Any problems, just shout, we can probably fix it.

I don't have anything to show, but... I'll just sit and listen, is that OK?

    July 17, 2013

    • Oli Z.

No worries. If you get time to install meteor and create an example app (two commands) then even better. Shout if you run into issues.

Please don't schedule these for Thursdays, they are the most popular night for events in London and clash with everything!
