Devshop LDN - April

Build a Meteor demo, as simple or fancy as you like. Then, the clever bit, we meet up and compare notes. The fancy can show off their wares and the curious can learn a trick or two.

In the news, Meteor have just completed a bunch of work for supporting scalable production apps through the use of their oplog driver. ANNND, Meteor released v0.8 which includes the new blaze template engine. So why not come along and talk about how these changes might affect your app with fellow Meteor developers?

Feeling code-shy but curious? That's fine too. Have a go at installing meteor and come along to the meetup to see the kind of magic you could be building. If you get stuck, just message the group and someone will be able to help.

Let us know if you've got a project you'd like to demo, or if you'd like to give a lightning talk on the day.

Many thanks to all the speakers who stepped up on the night as well! It made a good night into a great one - this meetup is all about you guys and your contributions so thank you all.

As I mentioned, my slides were on a gist that can be found here: https://gist.github.com/alanshaw/10046987. I used reveal-md (http://webpro.github.io/reveal-md/) to turn it from markdown into a presentation.

Hi guys, thanks again for the brilliant evening - my friend and I both learnt a lot and it was great meeting like-minded developers, it was a shame we had to leave before the pub!

I gave the quick talk on Sheffield University's Hubs Hub which you can see the (admittedly not that exciting) source code for at https://github.com/Winwardo/hub-search and you can see a small write up of it here: http://winwardo.co.uk/mini/eyh/

Was great being able to present and the scope of projects people were building were really thought-provoking and interesting!

Hope to see you all at a future meet-up :)

Thanks for organising the meetup guys, was really good and I'm so impressed by the Ableton band demo.

My twitter list manager is at http://clusterlists.com if you want to play. Messy source code is at https://github.com/jordn/clusterlists (ps. sorry if this emails everyone. Meetup has terrible defaults for email notifications.)

Woo haa! we have a full house for Thursday. If you RSVPd yes, and know that you can't make it, please remember to update your status so that those on the wait list can come.

Also, we may be a Devshop but this is still Show & Tell! If you have a demo, project, flight of fancy or next big thing you'd like to show, just let us know. If you're unsure, bring your demo along on Thursday, and you'll see that lightning talks aren't so scary.

Hey, I've got two startups --- http://www.futurescaper.com, which is relatively mature (50KLOC, lots of users), and http://www.podaris.com, which is at a very early stage. Unfortunately neither app is public, but I'd be happy to demonstrate either or both. The former is doing some pretty cool things with D3-based force-directed network visualisations (and we're planning on open-sourcing that part of the codebase soon), and the latter is doing collaborative urban planning within Google Maps. Let me know if you'd like to see what I'm up to.

Hey all. I'm building a Meteor app where the main datastore is JSON on S3 instead of MongoDB. It uses AWS signed uploads to sync the data with S3 directly in the browser, rather than routing through the server.

Anyway I'd be happy to do a quick demo / talk about how it works if you're interested.

Demo here: http://cardflashapp.com/ (yes I totally stole the look from Meteor.com :) )

I'd love to see some performance measurements for traditional meteor templates and blaze (https://github.com/meteor/meteor/wiki/Using-Blaze). Anyone want to have a shot at a lightning talk on this?
