Devshop London - Show & Tell

Build a Meteor demo, as simple or fancy as you like. Then, the clever bit, we meet up and compare notes. The fancy can show off their wares and the curious can learn a trick or two.

This Month

• Carl Littke -  lookback.io

Ben Foxall - A conceptual future for the multi-device web

And lightening talks

• Richard Silverton@MeteoriteP

Jon Gold - Midi hack!

• Tom Sabin

• Simon Katan

Feeling code-shy but curious? That's fine too. Have a go at installing meteor and come along to the meetup to see the kind of magic you could be building. If you get stuck, just message the group and someone will be able to help.

Let us know if you've got a project you'd like to demo, or if you'd like to give a lightning talk on the day.

Great talks last night, thanks for organising this meetup. It's brill. Umm just wondering, is this the best place to raise technical discussion/questions or should that be done elsewhere?

I reckon we should do that on the meteor-london github org, to get all the wonders of syntax highlighting: Add an issue here: https://github.com/met...

Great event. Any chance we can get the slides from Carl Littke on his Lookback filters approach? Would be quite useful.

I need to look at the pattern described. I've done similar, but simpler with pub.sub and filters ala tags and a counts collection of them. I handle dropped or zero results with a no records found block. Was interesting though.

The one I was doing included complicated drill down filters on the data - closest thing similar is something like the left hand sidebar in ebay. Complicated hierarchical data. Then looked to tie it up with the query on the routes so people could link directly. It's currently a parked project :-)

Hi all, sounds like a great line up.

I'll be heading down from Sheffield. Getting into London around lunchtime. Anyone around pre meet?

    • David T.

Ah sorry have meeting at 3. Hopefully meet later. Thanks

      June 12, 2014

    • James L.

Yep! Heading down from Chester, I'll be around 5 (in SE1) if anyone's there

...and Ben Foxall, co-founder of http://jsoxford.com the JavaScript Adventure Club, is coming down from Oxford to show us: the future, creating apps that co-ordinate input from multiple devices, and the awesomeness of real-time demos.

plus lightening talks on midi hacks, meteor-powered meteor-tweet-bots, and more... Don't forget to update you're RSVP so someone on the waitlist can come if you can't

    2 · June 10, 2014

  • Oli Z.

It's going to be a good one. https://lookback.io just landed a chunk of funding and the super Carl Littke, founder and lead developer, is swooping in from Sweden to show'n'tell how they're using Meteor and a custom native SDK to capture every nuance, swipe and facial expression of your iOS app user experience...

I've been stacked busy with work, so struggling to find focused time for Meteor hacking.

In the meantime, would a quick intro to the EM tool by Chis Mather help people?

    1 · June 3, 2014

    • Oli Z.

That's a good idea. We may struggle to fit it in this month, would you be up for showing it off in July?

      June 10, 2014

  • Oli Z.

In other news, we've hit the wait-list earlier than usual this month, so If you we're too trigger happy on the RSVP and can't make it, please update your status so those on the wait list can come.

    Hi all,

I've been using Meteor in various art projects over the last year and I'd like to share a bit of what I've been doing. Like Tom I'm wondering how it works ?

    Hey all,

I recently made a *thing* in Meteor and was wondering if I could briefly demo it at this meetup? It would be great to have some feedback about what I've created (and how I've gone about doing so). I've never been to one of these events before so I was wondering what the usual 'procedure' is?

    Thanks,
    Tom

For the show and tell events we have 2 -3 few 20 minute talks and then as many 5 minute lightening talks as we can fit in.

You're on the list! Just show us what you made and tell us how you did it.

    Hello,
I've just knocked up a twitter bot to post about meteorite packages (@MeteoriteP, obviously using Meteor), which it would be good to talk about if people are interested. The app speaks for itself, but the process of working out how to subscribe to publications in another app may be worth a bit of discussion and a rudimentary couple of minutes of live coding.

I need help... well specifically with HTML5 Canvas (using KineticJS) and adding moving images around from a collection. Was hoping to create a demo on this but clearly I'm going in circles...

I can't get it to load the image and then add to the canvas. Creating an image object in the Observe method does not seem to trigger it being loaded :(

Trying loads of things will post my results on github soon.. I will get a demo ready....
