Introducing Meteor: A Recap

Isaac S.

Post #: 4
The Meteor SLC group met last night, March 5th, at Neutron Interactive, and it was a meteoric success! (sorry, had to slide one pun in...)

10 Meteorites showed up, with 4 brand new attendees.

Luke kicked us off with a fantastic joke application built for his nephew. This was a great talking point for those new to Meteor, and also allowed some of our more veteran folks to see the ins and outs of collections and DDP:

Jason was up next, and BLEW US AWAY with an in-depth walkthrough of WebRTC + Meteor. Using Meteor in place of SIP allows a stable, non-transient recordset, which can be critical in some applications and situations.

He also gave us a demonstration of an actual live feed from Crimea (Yes, that Crimea!) using WebRTC + Meteor:

Finally, Strack gave an overview of Reactivity in Meteor, comparing and contrasting the (awesome) Meteor experience with a traditional, functional programming experience.

Luke's presentation deck can be found here.

Next up: Meteor SLC Hackathon (April Meetup)

Come with your ideas, problems, or projects.
We'll spend the first 10-15 minutes quickly presenting ideas, forming teams, and then off we go!
2-3 hours later, we'll present our progress, move the code to Github (where appropriate) and continue working on it after the event ends.

We're going to set a regular schedule (probably every 3rd Wednesday) so look for the next Meetup announcement, and TELL YOUR FRIENDS!
