Build your next secure HTML5 web app using Meteor

Meteor is an open-source platform for building top-quality web apps in a fraction of the time, whether you're an expert developer or just getting started.

After a few talks I gave last year the most frequently asked question was "SECURITY!?!?!".

As of October 17, 2012 and v0.5.0 this is no longer an issue, but an amazing feature that allows you to add email-based or third-party (Google, Twitter, Facebook) authentication in a matter or minutes.

So how about we celebrate that in a show-and-tell or mini-hackathon style event at the offices of the most trusted internet company for privacyMozilla!

Agenda:

6:30pm – Intro to Meteor and security features by yours truly (@dybskiy)

7pm – Show what you have created using Meteor or ask questions you have

After – Coding on the apps so bring your laptops and your code!

One of the Meteor devs might skype in for the event.

Options:

The talk will probably also touch a bit of d3.js and maybe AngularJS. Let me know if you have interest in that and I'll see if we can fit it in this one, or schedule for the next meetup.

Thanks to Jeff Griffiths @MozillaYVR for the venue and Anton @bielousov for the creative!

PS: Space is limited so please RSVP if you are sure you are going to attend.

We will arrange the broadcasting and record the event for those who can't make it.

Thank you!

Group conversation cleared up a lot of what I was unsure about with Meteor. I'm glad I came and I think Meteor will come in handy on some projects in the future.

For more hands on, check out the examples. Probably start with:
    http://www.meteor.com/examples/leaderboard

Muck around with the code and things will come to light pretty quick.

I think it was a really good introductory event to learn about Meteor. I was hoping for a bit more of hands-on tutorials where we would build a simple app, or some more in-depth tutorias. Overall this event got me more interested in Meteor, and I hope to have a chance to play with it soon.

It was great to meet people. It might have been nice to structure small groups and code together

Have been getting my hands dirty with Angular over the last couple weeks. Loving it so far, especially directives and the two way bindings.

There seems to be some overlap between Angular and Meteor, as well as some great compliments. Be great to get some insight in how these awesome tools can play nicely together.

Yeah, angular is awesome too, do you think you would have time to come up with a demo of them playing together?

I just learned about Meteor yesterday. Was to watch someone give that demo :)

Would be nice to talk about testing too!

Oh yeah, it's a show-and-tell event so would you be interested to make a quick demo on testing?

Would like a comparison between meteor, AngularJS, d3.js

They are all very different and all have awesome documentation. Please read that. Thanks!
