Storming The Castle @ Lambert Castle / Garrett Mountain

*** IMPORTANT NOTE: We're meeting at our usual spot in  Hawthorne, but we'll be driving 10 minutes to a different location for our workout. If you will be late, call ahead and we'll figure something out. ***

Let's head over to Lambert Castle at Garrett Mountain for a bit of unstructured play and exploration.

Today's workout will be longer and more challenging than our past workouts, but also much more fun. We'll explore the extensive grounds around Lambert Castle, using our natural movements to hike our way around the mountain, up trees, over boulders and more.

NOTE: We'll still meet at our usual spot in Hawthorne (in the parking lot) and then Gary will lead the way (10 minute drive) to today's workout spot.

DIRECTIONS:

If you are local to Hawthorne or coming from a different direction, you can skip this section. This is only for members coming from the south.

If you're coming from the south, take the Parkway North until you hit exit 156. Please only follow your GPS AFTER you take exit 156 on the Parkway.

After exit 156, follow your GPS to 289 Wagaraw Rd, Hawthorne, NJ. This puts you in a parking lot shared by J-B Pet Supplies and Sonic Bloomz. The jungle gym is directly across the street.

Now that you've got your orientation, you can either park at the pet supply store and walk across. Or, if you prefer, pull into the parking lot for the park, which is to the left of the jungle gym.

I give you the pet supply store as a destination because the jungle gym is kind of "hidden" if you park in the park's lot.

TO FIND US:

We'll meet in the parking lot and follow Gary to Lambert Castle. It's only 10 minutes away!

NOTES:

Water: No water fountains in the area; bring a bottle.

Clothes: Dress in comfortable gym attire. Make sure it's something you're willing to get dirty. You may want to bring shorts or wear them underneath, as you will get hot after we start moving.

Jewelry: Leave jewelry at home, especially rings, which tend to get snagged on things and cause nasty finger injuries.

Towel: Bring one to put down on the seat for the ride home. Between sweat and dirt, your car will thank you.

Sunscreen and/or brimmed hat: Highly recommend you wear both. Pre-mature aging is no fun!

Weather: It can be unpredictable and absolutely affects our outdoor workouts. PLEASE check this page and (if you are RSVPed) your email prior to leaving the house. If weather is too iffy to cancel early, we may cancel it up to 1 hour before it starts, so be alert!

Oh, one last thing, here's the info on the razor blades.

Nothing to be worried about of, let's just remember to check obstacles before we use them:

Turned out to be a great day, despite our initial hesitation about how the weather might be! Wall climbing, jumping, crawling, group portraits. Lots of fun!

Good morning! It is 8am and the rain is gone. We are ON for today's workout! Looking forward to storming the Castle with everyone! Don't forget to have breakfast and to pack a little snack and water for yourselves. See you guys in a bit.

IMPORTANT: It's going to rain tonight, but it seems the rain is going to stop from 7am to noon, so that gives us enough time to get our workout in.

If you look outside in the morning and have any doubts, please call either Gary or me by phone and we'll confirm whether it's still on based on what it looks like outside.

9am? I'm new to the group but I like the 10am…just my 2 cents. If it's raining, I'll skip tomorrow. I'll keep checking the weather.

Hi Susan, for the winter, we move the time to 10am, but in the summer we usually get together at 9am (sometimes 830, depending on location or event) because the heat and the sun are working against us later in the morning.

Hi Dave & Gary, confirming our new start time is 9:00am Saturday?

    • Dave

      Haha sounds great

Also, keep an eye on this page. It's supposed to rain tomorrow, so we might postpone Saturday's workout to Sunday.

We'll see what the forecast looks like later tonight.
