Gratitude - this was a very charged word in my childhood. It seemed to mean fulfilling an obligation of thanking people or thinking good thoughts as some kind of magic protection against loss. Its only been somewhat recently in my life that I've started to learn the joys of being grateful. How noticing what I have in my life instead of focusing on or worrying about what I don't is a much happier way to live - that this practice is a kindness to myself not an obligation to someone else.
Kirtan is a beautiful way to give thanks. Thank you to all of you who share your love through this practice. I hope you will be able to join us on the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend. Please feel free to bring something to place on our altar that reminds you of what you are grateful for in your life.
Metro DC Kirtan's monthly Community Kirtan is held at Willow Street Yoga in Takoma Park, Studio 1B. There's ample parking, and the studio is only a few short blocks from the Metro.
Community Kirtan is a chance to learn mantras, meditate, and dig spiritual roots into a "kirtan sangha." Come sing or just listen or bring your instrument or a recording of a mantra you love and try out leading a chant. We traditionally sit in a circle and do both call-and-response and unison singing/chanting supported by a variety of instruments. Harmonizing is encouraged, and well-behaved children are most welcome. This is a space where you can sing, try out leading a chant, request a chant you'd like us to sing, dance, or just meditate and enjoy the energy!
We do not require payment to attend but do ask for a $10 donation to help cover the cost of using the space. If you can not donate, please do not let that keep you from coming.
I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
