Going Green Without Breaking the Bank: Toward Zero Energy Homes

David Johnston has been at the center of the solar and green building movements in the US for more than three decades. In the 1970s and 80s Johnston established himself as a leader in passive solar design and construction. In 1980 Johnston founded the Passive Solar Industries Council and consulted with the US Department of Energy’s Solar Program.

An authoritative source for green building education, Johnston has trained thousands of builders and industry professionals. Johnston has written four books:Building Green in a Black and White World (2000), Green Remodeling, Changing the World One Room at a Time (2004), and Green from the Ground Up (2008). His most recent work is Taunton Press’ best seller since its release. His new book, Toward a Zero Energy Home is already a best seller.

Johnston is a sought after speaker having keynoted conferences around the world including; Norway, Finland, Holland, South Africa, Malaysia, Costa Rica and conferences across the US and Canada. He was part of the team than launched LEED in the 1990s. He has developed and implemented green building certification programs throughout the US and Canada. Most recently developing a road map for British Columbia, Canada to make zero energy homes code by 2020.
