Start of Spring Migration - Birds and other Nature

  • May 3, 2014 · 7:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

The early photographer gets the bird. This will be an early morning walk to view whatever is migrating through during the upcoming week. This is a lake environment and the spring migration brings new species every day.

These images here were shot within the last couple of days (L to R we have Snowy Egret, Ring-Necked Duck and Swainson's Hawk). We'll encounter numerous species of ducks, herons, cormorants, red-winged blackbirds and some warblers.  Also, there are numerous nature landscape possibilities.

Bring walking shoes (might be some mud), tripods, monopods, short to long telephoto lenses (300mm & longer), binoculars are nice to have along too. We'll spend time in two different areas and then have a late breakfast or early lunch.

It was such a pleasure experiencing a deeper part of Belmar Park. I returned again on Sunday and will make it a regular stop on my walks around Lakewood. Ben and Ron are great and I throughly enjoyed meeting and sharing with other members of the group during and after the photo shoot.

Sorry to hear that. The group meet in the Belmar library parking lot before heading to the park. Hope to see you next time.

Great morning, fun to see everyone! Sorry I slipped away after the meetup, wasn't feeling 100%. But it was a fine day and lots of birds, too!

One more comment before I got to bed. Which lens is better the SIGMA[masked]mm f/5-6.3 AF APO DG OS HSM Telephoto Zoom Lens or the TAMRON AF[masked]mm f/[masked] Di LD SP FEC (IF) Lens. I'm trying to decide between the two.

Maria, try Mike's for your tripod "feeling" trip.

I agree, Mike's is the best. You don't necessarily have to spend a small fortune on a tripod either. Be sure it is high enough and sturdy. I have a vanguard brand and love it.

Would I be able to ride with someone? I live by the children's hospital but can meet someone at Colfax and Broadway or by the high school on Colfax and Josephine.
