Stony Creek MetroPark Hike (NE of Rochester)

  • Dec 22, 2013 · 11:00 AM

We will hike about 5-6 miles at a moderate pace, exploring the grounds of a former estate. This remote area of the park has rolling hills created by glaciers and is heavily wooded, with one of the highest points in the area and great views. (Hike high and look down on the world) Wear your hiking boots. Call if weather is questionable. Bring a trail beverage. Optional restaurant stop after.  Leader: Roy,[masked]C.

Meet: 11am at the trailhead: Stony Creek - West Branch picnic area/parking lot B.

Sorry, I have to back out of this hike. I have a pretty bad cold and I don't think the weather today would make me feel any better. Have fun all, catch you next time.

Hello all I just joined, but I can not make this hike because of work.
    Enjoy the trip.
I am a beginner at this what kind of pants would be good for this kind of hike? Thanks

The kind that cover your legs. :) But seriously, anything if they're warm enough for you. Note however that serious hikers almost never wear jeans. They're not very warm, they're stiff and somewhat constricting, and if they get wet they stay wet and make you cold. If you wear jeans in winter at least wear synthetic long johns under them. You'll see a variety of pants on our hikes from dedicated all synthetic hiking pants to winter running gear to fleece to XC skiing and bike tights to Army surplus wool trousers.

Speaking only for myself here: Based on the forecast, I think the trails might be icy in spots by Sunday. Might be worth bringing your Yaktrax or similar if you have 'em. But I'm a cautious sort. :)

I sure wish I could join you all for your upcoming hikes! Unfortunately, I tore my ACL two weeks ago and I am out of commission :(
