This group is for Golf "Long Drivers" who have competed in or are interested in competing in long drive competitions (particularly the RE/MAX Long Drive World Championship). We will meet to hold our own simulated competitions, share training methods, discuss long drive techniques to help us all improve, and share our passion for hitting a golf ball a long long way.
In order to qualify for participation in this group you should have a swing speed of a minimum of 110 MPH. At that speed it means you may have some potential for long drive but are not at long drive competitive speeds yet. Elite long drive competitors will have a swing speed, depending on their age group, from 125 to 150 MPH. If you don't know what your swing speed is, you can get it measured for free at a local Golf Smith or similar golf store.
As we all know, there are other factors contributing to the distance the golf ball travels: equipment specifications, spin, launch angle, and striking the ball "squarely" each time; we can help each other optimize these "factors" as well.
Established long drive competitors will know what their swing speed is. For example, I am 57 so compete in the 55 - 60 age group and have a swing speed of between 125-130 MPH but my goal is to get it at a minimum of 135 MPH for this years competition. Last year I only competed in the 45-50 year age group as they have local qualifying. I won a local qualifier and then went to the regional competition where I lost and did not advance to the finals in Mesquite Nevada.
