Destination: Weekend Trip Blue Ridge Parkway
Camping in Maggie Valley at the Mile High Campground
Campground web site http://www.campmilehigh.com
Very secluded yet has bathhouses with hot showers. (bring flip flops to wear in the shower, additional tips on items to bring will follow)
Being up on a ridge at 5,280 feet, you have great views. Sometimes you are looking down at clouds and up at blue sky.
Due to the high elevation, there is no ponds (standing water) and therefore no mosquitoes. Campers gather for awesome sunsets.
We will ride at speeds within 5-10 mph of all posted speed limits. Rest stops will be according to the comfort of all riders and passengers. We will probably take short 5-10 minutes rest stops for every 60-90 minutes of riding. But again this all depends on everyone’s comfort.
Riding and activity schedule: We already have three campsites that will hold 3-5 tents each the cost is $10 a night per person
10:00 am KSU – We will travel approximately 177 miles on our first day of riding.
Friday afternoon activity, after we set up camp, is open to voting, Do we go for a quick afternoon ride, all weekend long at the campground the dutch oven club will be cooking.I also will be making a pot of something seen that I won in a raffle a brand new dutch oven from them this weekend so I am sort of committed to it and will enjoy doing it as well
How about a pot luck breakfast? I have several propane stoves that I can bring.
10:30 am KSU – We will travel approximately 100 miles on the twisty Blue Ridge Parkway before we loop back to Maggie Valley. Again, depending on votes, we can spend most of the evening in Maggie Valley or head back to the camp to see another sunset and enjoy a camp fire.
