Packs of Hope - Fill packs with needed supplies for kids entering Foster Care

It is hard to image having to go into the foster care system, and often kids in the position having nothing with them - not a change of clothes, a tooth brush, or a toy. Our goal is to have volunteers fill 100 "Packs of Hope" back packs filled with essential clothing and items to children and youth who are transitioning into out-of-home or foster care.

This project is being done in conjunction with  Packs of Hope, an organization committed to helping/supporting kids and families in foster care.

We need volunteers willing to shop for new items that will be placed in these supplied packs.  Each Pack of Hope will contain a shirt, pants, socks, underwear, pj's, sweatshirt, toothbrush, and book or toy. We estimate the cost to fill a pack at $25.

When you sign-up, you can indicate how many packs you are willing to fill by adding "guests." If you sign-up and have no guests, that will indicate your participation by filling one pack.

Volunteers are responsible for bringing the pack to Grace Chapel, 8505 S Valley Highway, Englewood, CO.

Also, watch for another, upcoming related volunteer opportunity - sorting/organizing the packs.

Is it too late to bring stuff?

no, you can still bring stuff, did you pick up a pack? If you did, just drop it off at the church office at any point in time. If you didn't we are out of packs, but you can always bring some stuffed animals to put into packs :)

The packs will be at a table in our church lobby on Sunday May 11th. I will be at the table starting at about 8:45-12:30. If you want to check out our church while you are there, feel free, if not no worries, we'll get you a backpack and form. Thanks for your desire to help local children Heidi

Hi Kyle, I'm not sure where to drop off my filled packs. Should I take them to the church? Who do I give them to?

      May 19

    • kyle m.

Yes, you can drop them off at the church office during the week. Sorry I haven't been on the site in a few days, we had some car issues this week, I've been a bit distracted. :(

Is it too late to drop off the filled backpacks? If so, where can I bring them either today or tomorrow?

OK, I will be try to be at the table by 8:30, but be patient, my kids are kind of crazy on Sunday mornings. If you are picking up a pack but not planning to attend a church service, be aware that I will be in the service from 9:05-10:15 to announce the program. I'll try to be prompt at getting back to the table. Thanks for everybody's interest and compassion. I'm excited that we might be able to provide a small bit of comfort to children who are going through great turmoil. Thanks again to everybody.

Hello: I really hope you'll have this event again as I'd love to help. Is this something that is needed on a regular basis...say once a month or so? I'll look for the next posting. Thank you for your efforts.

Hi everyone. I've been wanting to join in on an activity for this group. I understand that the group will provide the backpack and I am to provide the items which go in side. Can I get some information on what sizes of shirt/pants/socks etc. we should buy? Is this for babies, children, teens? And, do we show up at 9 AM just to drop off the items?

I brought packs back Sunday. The packs smelled awful like rubber or tar. Tried to spray with febreeze.

yep, they are cheap packs, but the goal is to allow volunteers to spend money on the more important contents

I truly wish Amanda and I could be there, but we'll be visiting family out of town that weekend. Next time for sure.

What times are available to pick up the backpacks?

    April 18

    • kyle m.

I'll probably have the packs out and the sign out sheet ready on Sunday morning at 8:30 or so, I'll probably man the table till about 1:00 pm. If you can't make it that day, or would prefer not to pick it up at my church, just let me know and I'll figure out another place to meet you

This event will be hosted at Grace Chapel Church, there are backpacks that can be picked up and filled with a suggested list of items. We ask they be returned within two weeks. If you need to make other arrangements to pick up and drop off the packs, just let me know!
