Dallas Gay Pride Parade 2012

Sponsored by the Metroplex Atheists, our group welcomes everyone in the DFWCoR to walk with us. If your group has a banner, you may bring and display it.

Our support vehicle (a.k.a., Randy Word's truck) will be in our space no later than noon. Everyone else needs to arrive AT OUR SPACE no later than 1:15. The parade begins promptly at 2:00.

Parking is always a problem. Do not expect to be able to park within one mile of our space. Kroger (in particular) will be unavailable for parking. I am working on a system to shuttle people to and from the closest DART rail station (both before and after the Parade).  Details will follow.

From the DART Market Center Station to our Parade space: approx. 0.50 miles

From our Parade space to the end of the parade: approx. 1.10 miles (at this point there is a Festival; I'm not sure what it costs to get in.)

From the end of the Parade back to the DART station: approx. 1.5 miles

    OK, friends, Monte and I may not be able to go this year. We were going to take the train from Las Colinas, but Monte went to the ER with his right knee in severe pain this morning and they did xray and sonogram (to eliminate clot) and he has severe arthritis in his knee. He has pain meds but may not be able to walk to the parade from the train station or in the parade. We will let you know for sure in the morning. Ya'll have fun!!

    OKAY, peoples! No shuttles at the beginning of the parade. Park at the DART Market Center parking lot and walk to our staging spot. We will run shuttles from the END of the parade back to the DART parking lot.

      Yeah, Julia, I know! ;-) Last year, we had a few folks suffer from the heat, so I'm being a good "mom" and letting everyone know what to expect. Ask John, it was hot as heck out there!

    • I will update this event with more details after August 15.

    Here are a few basic tips to help you plan ahead:

    • We will walk with one pick-up truck as a support vehicle. We can drive a handful of folks who can't walk the route. Otherwise, we use the truck to carry coolers with water.
    • It will be hot. Please bring water for yourself (at least). If you can, bring extra water to share.
    • Start hydrating the day before.
    • We encourage you to wear any t-shirt you want (from your local group, a past parade, etc.). If you need a shirt, check CafePress.com/tiimb. Order early! We are planning to reuse the "Fabulous" shirts from last year.
    • Umbrellas are a great way to protect yourself from the sun! So is sunscreen. Even a hat helps. BRING YOUR OWN!
    • Food. Eat it. Bring it. We will not provide it.
    • There are port-a-potties. I would not call them deluxe!
