Trip Description:
You must call and make your own reservations. When you call tell them you are in Shawn's group. If you have been on our Brazos trip, this will be a bit different. Most of the river is lined with private property so there is no place to stop along the way. We will not stop for lunch during the trip. With the long drive it will make sense to eat before the put in time at 1130. There are places to eat when exiting I-35 (Freebirds, Arby?s, Jason?s Deli, Whataburger, Etc.) Plan on getting wet on this trip. I dumped the boat twice on my first trip on this river. Given the section we are paddling, the rental company will only allow sit-on-top kayak rentals. They have single seaters and tandems. Unless you and your partner have excellent communications I recommend the solo boats. We will put in at City Park and take out at Skulls crossing. This is approximately ten miles. There is one mandatory portage. You must pick up your boat and carry it around a dam. The river is spring fed and 70 deg. year round. This is the most beautiful river I have paddled in Texas. It is worth the drive.

Some of us will be camping Friday night at Shady Grove Campground wich is also run by Spencer Canoe.
