Twilight Imperium Learning Game

Mike would like to gather people together to teach and play a game of the infamous Twilight Imperium (Third Edition).

Twilight Imperium is a sci-fi 4X game:
eXplore
eXpand
eXploit
eXterminate

You will use those four concepts to guide your civilization to glory and become the new galactic emperor!

    How did it go?

Sorry to change this last minute, but we are going to have to play in my apartment instead. When I was asking about the room, the info desk person told me I wouldn't need a reservation, but it must have slipped her mind that they are closed on Sunday.

I live at 38 Birch St. Worcester Apt. 4. In case people don't get this though, I'll go over to the U.C. and check for people. I'm only a block or so from campus.

Sorry for such late notice, but I just found out.

I caught the bug that's going around my office, woke up in rough shape. Sorry to miss this!

  • Rachel P.

Hey, are we still planning on doing this at Clark?

    July 17

    • Keith

Thanks, that will be very helpful!

Just so you guys know, the stair are currently out of commission and they weren't sure if they would be fixed by Sunday. However, there is an elevator right by the stairs that go directly to the 3rd floor. If you can't find it, you can either call me, or just ask the info desk (you can't miss them).

Happy Friday everyone. The time is drawing near for our galactic escapades to begin. Drew and I are particularly excited because we have had the opportunity to play TI3 in the past and I feel confident speaking for him when I say it lives up to all the hype of epic-ness and awesome-ness. Our reaction to a game has always been, "when can we play again?" With that said, TI3 is the poster child for the Fantasy Flight philosophy of game design: simple mechanics made complex by lots of moving parts, special actions, variable player powers, timing issues, fiddliness, phases and subphases, and multiple decks of cards. But thank the heavens above they decorate that complexity with loads of cool plastic pieces and pretty cardboard tokens!

So some housekeeping: Rachel, I'm assuming we are stil using your copy of the base game? Have you played it before? I only ask because the ships all come on sprues and I remember it took me quite a while to punch and trim it all.

I haven't played the game, but I got it in a trade and is thus punched out. If we don't read any of the rules, is that okay?

      July 25

    • Mike

Sure it's okay. Just wanted to put it out there. As mentioned previously, it's complication comes in all the interaction of ideas, so there will be a lot to take in.

Darn, I work Sundays. This is definitely a game I would love to play though!

  • Mike

Just to confirm, the date on the table now is Sunday, July 27th. Drew, Rachel, Randy and myself have all confirmed (so far) that that date will work for us. Keith and Jim, will that work for you?

If you could reserve a Clark meeting room with a giant conference table, that would be pretty awesome. Just saying...

      July 7

    • Rachel P.

There is a room with huge tables that I've used before without any problem. I'll try and get a conference room, but I think you can only reserve them for two hours at a time.

Either way, it is a great space.

Do we have any updates as to whether 7/27 is a viable day for everyone for this?

From the looks of things below, it looks like Rachel, Mike, Drew, and myself are good with the 27th. What about Keith or Jim?

    July 6

    • Rachel P.

The 27th is very good of me, but I expect the 9th will be as well. I suggest that we play on the 27th because we have 5 already (and a sixth shouldn't be too hard to pick up) and then maybe try and plan a second day on the Aug, 9th.

Would you like to set a new venue for the 27th, Mike?

7/14 and 7/21 work for me. i'm not sure about the 7/28. My dad is coming up from florida for a huge family gathering and i think it is that weekend 28-29th

For July, did you mean the 12th and the 19th? If so we may have to shoot for August.

If we need a location I can host the game.

I've been waiting patiently for you to finally show up Jim. The use of your place would be much appreciated, as would the use of your base set, as mine is still married together with the 2 expansions. I think we need to play it safe and go simple for this go around (though it will be difficult to refrain from using all the cool stuff from the other sets).

      June 25, 2014

    • Rachel P.

I've got the base set too, so we can use that if we need to.

      June 26, 2014

  • Mike

Next up is a date This will easily be an all-day occasion so I would recommend a late morning start. Either a Saturday or Sunday would work for me. Jim, I think we obviously need to work around your work/life schedule since you've been gracious enough to offer your place. Thoughts?

    June 25, 2014

    • Rachel P.

      7/27 should work for me.

      June 25, 2014

    • Mike

I can do the 27th of July.
