Miami Matchmaker's Salsa Lessons And Salsa Dancing At Salsa Fever, Yuca

Backstory:

Several years ago, a good friend of mine I've known since high school, Normand Rocha, told me that Salsa was a great place to meet people and offered to teach me a little salsa if I wanted to meet more women. After our first class, I was hooked and from then on I was to be a part of the salsa world for seven straight years. Now, that same friend that taught me salsa met his lifelong dream of owning his own salsa studio and turned it into a reality.

I met most of my best friends from Salsa and even made a few girlfriends. Salsa Cuban Casino is a unique form of salsa popular in Miami where dancers dance in a big circle, constantly switching partners, making it very easy to meet lots of people in a short period of time. It can also be danced one on one.

Here is a short video of my friends Normand and Dagmara dancing together at a performance.

Details of The Party:

His studio is called Salsa Fever, located in Miami Beach at Yuca and I will be hosting our next official event there. He normally charges $40 for a salsa lesson, but for us, he is only charging $15 for the lessons, plus he will provide us with a salsa party and social to meet and practice with others after the lesson is over.

He told me that you can pay at the door, just inform the check-in person that you are a part of the "Miami Matchmaker's Group" or "Dan Silverman's Group" and they will give you the discount.

Please RSVP if you plan on going because I'd like to give him an estimate of how many people are going.

I've requested Normand himself to be our instructor for our lesson so we are in for a real treat! It doesn't matter how much you suck at salsa because we will be taking a basic new-to-salsa class together. If you are already great at Salsa Casino, you can join one of the more advanced groups that will be there with us that day.

Parking:

There is a parking garage just down the street of Lincoln Rd. that is walking distance from the dance studio. It's located on the corner of Convention Center Dr. and 17th Avenue. It's $1 per hour to park. I highly recommend you park there.

Please invite your friends and share this invitation. I hope all of you come because if you are looking to meet a helluva lot of people, get some exercise, and have a good time doing it, then Salsa isn't just the best choice for you, it's the only choice for you!

I was recently given the suggestion of having a potluck at someone's house. I really like the idea, but my place is too small. Is there anyone in the group that would offer their place? Only alternative I have is grilling at the beach in Crandon Park Beach in Key Biscayne.

Looks like I can't host Rosa's event because I will be at a matchmaker's event that evening. I'll throw the party at the beach then. Will discuss details with you tomorrow.

    Dan, suggestion for a meetup:
The Globe Cafe and Bar in the Gables has a yearly event called Cuba Libre block party. It's a free event so it does get pretty crowded; however, there is music, and we get a chance to practice the salsa we learned last week!! I believe the date is Friday, May 16.

Well, damnit. I just realized I have a matchmaker's event to go to that night. I can't host it. Ask Josie if she would be willing to host it. She may volunteer to help.

A psychologist! I would very much like to meet you. Please come to the next event. P.S. My dad and sis are both Psychologists. I would have become one if I didn't hate academia so much. I stopped at Masters and just couldn't torture myself anymore.

How do you know nobody wanted to dance with you when you didn't ask anyone? How do you know she was watching us dancing because she didn't want to dance with you? What if she was watching us because we were flapping and flailing around like fools and were too hilarious not to watch?

Sorry I could not make it. I'm glad everyone had an awesome time!!! I will make it next time!

It appears some of you are getting lost on your way here. The salsa studio is on the second floor of the yuca cafe. Yuca is a restaurant

    • Dan S.

Walk inside the restaurant and you will find registration immediately inside. The salsa classes will be upstairs on the second floor. If your lost, you can find me and my big red shirt.

Should be an hour or two. There will be a party immediately following to practice what you've learned. Come at 8:00PM to get registered so we can start on time.

Hello, I hope you can make it to this single's salsa social mixer! Should be a pretty big turn out! Since we expect a large amount of people to show up and we want to start classes on time, please come a half hour early (8:00PM) so you can be registered at the front desk. Also, please bring cash if you can so we can get everyone registered as quickly as possible. See you at the event!

    1 · April 28, 2014

  • Dan S.

Yes, we will all be participating in an entry level salsa class. However, there are more advanced classes going on if you are already a veteran. Dress code is usual club/lounge attire. Just make sure it's something you can dance in.

  • sunil

    Hi Dan
I have never done salsa.. I hope beginners are welcome and can you advise the dress code

Ladies, I know that lately the guys have been slacking.... GUYS!!!! >:( , but I am co-hosting this event with my friend Normand, owner of Salsa Fever, who happens to know a lot of hot salsa dancing men who will be joining us there. So no worries. I highly suggest you come to this event if you want to meet a lot of new people. And Men, I highly suggest you come to more of these meetups as there have been a ton of single women here with few guys to talk to!
